Job Description
Tesla is seeking a Managing Policy Advisor to join its Energy Policy team to support regulatory, markets, and legislative work in North America that can help scale deployment of Tesla’s energy products. The individual will work primarily to support deployment of grid-scale battery energy storage through close collaboration with others on the Policy and Megapack energy teams. This role may support Tesla’s residential energy interests as needed. This position can sit in Austin, the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington D.C., or Chicago.
What You'll Do
- Develop state level policy strategy for scaling deployment of battery energy storage and building new market opportunities
- Proactively engage with policymakers, regulatory commissions and staff, utilities, trade groups, and a variety of external stakeholders to drive advocacy supporting energy priorities, including via regulatory filings and legislation
- Ensure effective collaboration between Tesla’s Policy and Business Development, Operations, and Engineering Teams on policy and regulatory engagements
What You'll Bring
- 6+ years of relevant work experience in the electricity or energy industry
- Degree in a field relevant to Energy, Political Science, Economics, and Utility Business Models or equivalent experience
- Deep knowledge of electric utility regulations, regional transmission system operations, utility resource planning processes and interconnection rules
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize and clearly communicate technical information
- Working knowledge of utility planning process and ability to advocate for energy storage policies at state level. Preferred: candidates who have demonstrated specific policy outcomes through prior work
- Highly energetic personality with an ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
