What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join the Policy Team to support energy policy in North America. The individual will collaborate with others on the Policy, Megapack, and Residential Energy Teams to support deployment of residential battery energy storage, residential solar, and grid-scale battery energy storage. A key component of this role will be to provide analytical and advocacy support for solving legislative, regulatory, or jurisdictional barriers to scaling deployment of Tesla’s energy products. This may include direct engagement on policies related to ratemaking, interconnection, permitting, codes and standards, utility-level programs, and electricity markets. The Policy Analyst will also work collaboratively with business, legal, and compliance teams to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals.

What You'll Do
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory requirements, proposed requirements, and business opportunities relating to Tesla’s residential and grid-scale energy priorities to determine potential impacts on deployment, business development, operations, and technology development
  • Engage with a variety of external stakeholders and develop coalitions to drive advocacy for energy priorities, including regulatory filings and legislation
  • Build, maintain, and deepen relationships with policymakers, commission staff, utility partners, and trade groups
  • Support research and analyses on emerging topics for scaling battery energy storage system deployment
  • Represent Tesla with written and verbal comments at state agencies, in regulatory proceedings and at public hearings
  • Support interconnection, permitting, code, and compliance escalations for priority markets

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in a field relevant to Energy, Political Science, Economics, and Utility Business Models or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience with energy policy, electric utilities, electricity markets, energy project development, or public policy
  • Demonstrated track record influencing the policy making process in complex regulatory markets including stakeholder engagement, drafting comments, and providing verbal testimony
  • Ability to work collaboratively across issue areas and teams to distil complex technical topics in energy
  • Experience managing multiple policy issue areas and engaging a variety of stakeholders to drive advocacy priorities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complicated and technical policy points effectively to a wide range of individuals
  • A results-driven self-starter with the ability and desire to travel, as well as an ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
