What to Expect

Tesla is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to join its Energy Policy Team to advocate on issues related to Tesla’s energy business before wholesale power market operators and/or the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The Managing Policy Advisor will work closely with Tesla’s commercial, product, engineering, and operations teams to advance policies in support of company goals. The Managing Policy Advisor will work closely with the Energy Policy Team, trade groups and other stakeholders to help strategize, align priorities, and ensure coverage of Tesla’s business priorities within regional transmission organization planning processes. This position can sit in any major metropolitan area, but preferably Washington DC, San Francisco, or Austin.


What You'll Do
  • Advance Tesla’s energy policies before wholesale power markets operators and FERC, including through regulatory filings, coordination with trade groups and other stakeholders, and meetings with regulatory staff
  • Develop, present, and negotiate policy proposals within regional transmission organizations. Coordinate with Energy Policy Team on coverage within regional transmission organization planning processes
  • Engage closely with Tesla’s energy business teams to ensure alignment between business priorities and public policy goals
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, peer companies, and trade associations and their staff members to advance the company’s goals and objectives

What You'll Bring
  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in the electricity or energy industry and 4+ years of work with wholesale power markets or federal energy regulatory engagements. Working knowledge of stakeholder processes at regional power markets and federal regulators to represent Tesla and achieve specific outcomes. Preferred: candidates who have demonstrated specific policy outcomes through prior work on wholesale power markets
  • Degree in a field relevant to Energy, Political Science, Economics, and Utility Business Models or equivalent experience
  • Deep knowledge of locational pricing, federal and state energy regulation, regional transmission system operations, electricity markets, and interconnection rules
  • Impeccable communication and presentation skills, both writing and speaking - ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of individuals
  • Highly structured individual with an ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
