Reports To: Community Organizing Manager

Location: Remote or Hybrid in NYC

Duration: Flexible based on academic schedule

Hours: 10-20 hours per week

People’s Choice Communications is a worker-owned social enterprise dedicated to bridging the digital divide by providing affordable, community-owned broadband access, including $11 laptops. Each position offers hands-on experience, with the flexibility to work across multiple areas or specialize based on your interests.


Position Overview

You’ll work closely with our team on initiatives that promote digital equity and community empowerment. We encourage innovation and are highly open to interns proposing and executing their own projects. Whether you’re passionate about advocacy campaigns, outreach strategies, or creating impactful content, we’re here to support your vision.


Responsibilities

Community Organizing:

  • Coordinate neighborhood outreach to educate residents about our services and mission.
  • Work with local leaders to mobilize participation in community initiatives.
  • Organize town halls, workshops, and volunteer events to promote digital equity.

Legislative Relations:

  • Conduct research on policy issues and legislative developments impacting broadband access.
  • Support engagement with policymakers through letter-writing campaigns, meeting preparation, and grassroots lobbying efforts.
  • Draft advocacy materials, such as policy briefs and talking points.

Grassroots Outreach:

  • Canvas neighborhoods to increase awareness and recruit supporters for our initiatives.
  • Phone bank to engage community members, provide information, and gather feedback.
  • Register new subscribers for our services, ensuring they understand available benefits.
  • Train and manage volunteers for grassroots events and outreach.

Marketing:

  • Plan and execute campaigns to raise awareness about our services and advocacy goals.
  • Develop marketing collateral, including flyers, graphics, and press releases.
  • Conduct research to target outreach campaigns effectively.

Social Media:

  • Create and manage content for our social media platforms.
  • Monitor trends and engage with online audiences to amplify our message.
  • Analyze campaign performance to refine strategies.


Qualifications
  • A passion for social justice, digital equity, and community empowerment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficiency in tools like Google Suite, Canva, or voter engagement tools is a plus.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
