The Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) is seeking an experienced and results-driven senior project manager who can partner closely with cross-functional teams to execute and deliver AMC’s strategic priorities. This role is pivotal in AMC’s digital transformation, ensuring successful delivery of our shared initiatives to deliver on our mission to get more people outdoors.

Reporting to the VP of Technology, the Senior Project Manager, Technology will be responsible for leading project management for AMC’s technology initiatives. This role involves developing and maintaining our overall project and communication processes and procedures including planning, dependency management, and workflow planning. The ideal candidate is process driving while remaining flexible and iterative and loves to take on new challenges.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING AT AMC 

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and timelines for AMC’s technology initiatives.  
  • Utilize Agile or other appropriate methodologies to manage project workflows, ensuring flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements. 
  • Partner with technology and cross functional teams to develop and refine enterprise-wide project management tools and best practices. 
  • Leverage Jira and other relevant tools for project tracking, task management, and reporting. 
  • Work closely with internal and external partners to shepherd various types of technology initiatives from inception through completion. Identify issues between competing interests to create alignment on priority, scope and realistic timelines. 
  • Provide regular updates and reports on project progress, ensuring transparency and alignment with stakeholders' expectations. 
  • Actively seek out, track and escalate impediments to the teams' throughput and barriers to project completion. Identify red flags and key risks, escalating as necessary. 
  • Report project status to a wide audience. Manages project level communications and updates. 
  • Provide a vision and understanding of process and program management benefits. 
  • Manage the reviewing and triaging process for Service Requests. 
  • Track and communicate project status, risks, and emergent issues. Organize complicated information so that it is readily accessible to varying stakeholders and can be kept current with minimal overhead. 
  • Help identify systemic issues, process problems, and other risks and work with the appropriate colleagues to find resolutions. 
  • Ensure shared understanding of initiative objectives and success criteria across the project team. Communicate effectively and drive a free flow of information with and among stakeholders on all matters. 

Qualifications

WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR 

  • 5+ years of experience in project management. Experience managing complex, enterprise technical projects is required  
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices. 
  • Experience working with external consultants and vendors, with a focus on building collaborative relationships. 
  • Solid understanding of change management principles and experience driving organizational change initiatives. 
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies, with hands-on experience using Jira for project tracking and management. 
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Able to build consensus on priority, scope and keep the initiative teams focused on realistic timelines to get things out the door, shipping (safely) first 
  • Able to effectively facilitate a technical discussion and wrangle if things are going off topic 
  • Comfortable chasing down answers and decisions and getting the right people in the room 
  • Able to coach on the value of process and implement it by tailoring to the needs of the initiative teams and stakeholders 
  • Ability to see the big picture and problem-solve the root cause, not just the immediate symptom 
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical contributors, and between technical and project teams and senior leadership. 
  • Proficient with Salesforce. Knowledge of Salesforce Experience Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and Service Cloud is preferred.   
  • Experience with reservation management, event management, eCommerce, and POS is a plus.

WHAT AMC CAN OFFER YOU 

Salary range:  $99,866- $134,789

We are committed to equitable compensation practices, and we encourage qualified candidates to apply. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
