Summary

The positions are located in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs (PM), Office of Security Assistance (SA).


PM provides policy direction in the areas of international security, security assistance, military operations, defense strategy and plans, and defense trade. SA is responsible for the direction and management of over $6.5 billion in security assistance to allies and friends through policy development, budget formulation, and program oversight.

Duties

At the GS-11 and GS-12 levels, the incumbent performs the duties as outlined below; however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence. The incumbent receives closer than normal supervision than at the GS-13.

Advises on issues and problems related to security assistance to develop and propose resolutions for policy implementation.

Manages issue areas pertinent to the assigned area (e.g. military grant assistance, military security cooperation).

Conducts research, analysis, and consultations with U.S. and foreign experts to collect information on problems and possible solutions in policy and program implementation.

Represents the Bureau and Department at policy discussions with interagency and international partners.

Monitors political, economic, and other developments, trends, and reporting related to security sector assistance to understand the implications for U.S. interests.
