Responsibilities:
Job Summary: Manage statewide leadership, creation and support in the development and execution of H-E-B’s environmental affairs strategies and programs.

Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary
  • Create and implement impactful statewide environmental affairs initiatives and events across the H-E-B market area to improve the communities we serve.
  • Manages and supervises the roadmap in support of Environmental Affairs key function areas. Function areas include: internal environmental advisor, community relations, public relations, media relations, governmental relations, and communications.
  • Manages and implements H-E-B's media relations plans and strategies, including the maintenance of news media relationships, drafts talking points to H-E-B Newsroom, press releases, edits media advisories, announcements, editorial placement, speaking opportunities, and supporting materials.
  • Supports H-E-B sustainability initiatives, such as waste reduction and recycling
  • Serves as an H-E-B Environmental Affairs corporate spokesperson to the news media, the general public and internally to H-E-B employees.
  • Manages and implements H-E-B's public relations plans and strategies, including the maintenance of public branding opportunities and events and collaborates with internal H-E-B Marketing Teams, communications teams, and the H-E-B Sustainability Center of Excellence.
  • Devises and coordinates strategically-aligned community events in partnership with internal and external groups such as procurement, human resources, advertising, marketing, operations, civic groups, non-profit organizations, governmental organizations, the news media and consultants.
  • Manages and implements H-E-B's Environmental Affairs philanthropic plans and strategies, including the maintenance and implementation of statewide and regional philanthropic signature statewide programs that combine business needs while advancing community relations and impact.
  • Contributes in ownership to the departmental and corporate budgeting processes for operational, charitable and non-charitable expenses
  • Serves as an environmental advisor to H-E-B departments
  • Manages third-party consultants and contractors


Education and Experience:
  • Holds a bachelor's degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
  • 5+ years project/program management experience
  • Experience in working in environmental affairs
  • Possess well-established working relationships with local news media reporters, editors, producers and news directors
  • Possess well-established working relationships with civic leaders, community activists, and non-profit organizations
  • Working knowledge of the operational functions of non-profit, government, non-government and other civic organizations
  • Experience managing outside public relations, advertising, and promotional consultants
  • Extensive project management experience
  • Experience creating and leading volunteer opportunities
  • Ability to organize and implement large events, from planning and logistics to earned media strategic development
  • Advanced level interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Able to work in a team environment
  • Advanced budgeting skills
