About the Position

Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, the External Affairs Project Manager will engage in project planning and execution that will deliver a multi-year rollout of project deliverables and outcomes that support CBED’s mission of rebuilding the Black teacher pipeline. The External Affairs Project Manager is responsible for coordinating, planning and managing tasks related, but not limited to, various initiatives associated with the Black Teacher Pipeline such as the national #WeNeedBlackTeachers advocacy campaign, the national Black Teacher Pipeline coalition, Building the Black Educator Pipeline Podcast, CBED’s Teaching Pathways, etc. The ideal candidate for this position will be passionate about our mission of rebuilding a Black teacher pipeline to achieve educational and racial justice in our schools, and is optimistic that we can make a difference with thoughtful and strategic project planning and execution.


Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure all project aspects are fulfilled and adhere to CBED’s mission, strategy and set budget.
  • Organize and convene regular project meetings with essential stakeholders and provide timely, written guidance to stakeholders with support from the Director of External Affairs.
  • In partnership with the Director of External Affairs, provide ongoing development support that consists of identifying individual donors, corporate partners, and community organizations to secure gifts, sponsorships, and grants, along with supporting the sub-granting process for 2 various grants.
  • Work in partnership with the Communications Director to help develop compelling content and fundraising materials to be distributed through CBED’s various communication streams.
  • Support with the national Black Men in Education Convening event planning, along with various miscellaneous events hosted by CBED.
  • Work in partnership with our partners, brightbeam, to support the Building the Black Educator Pipeline podcast with talent outreach.
  • Support CBED’s communications consultants with ensuring all projects abide by CBED’s strategy and branding guidelines.
  • Serve as a brand ambassador on behalf of CBED at external events, both in person and online.
  • Stay up to date with best practices in educational equity and racial justice work.

Background and experience expectations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of professional experience, with at least two years’ experience in project management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on conveying detailed information in an easily accessible manner.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a project, from initiation to completion.
  • Experience working on multiple portfolios and with multiple stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Outstanding data analysis ability – must be able to collect, report, analyze and synthesize a variety of forms of data and create data presentations.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Must possess strong, high-quality leadership, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Detailed orientated.
  • Flexible and able to multitask on different aspects of a project or on a variety of projects.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Self-motivated, creative, organized, and deeply committed to personal and organizational excellence.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
