East Bay Community Law Center (EBCLC) is a non-profit legal services organization, the community-based clinical program for U.C. Berkeley Law School, and one of the Bay Area’s largest and most effective systems disrupters. With a dual service and teaching mission, EBCLC is a racial justice organization committed to building a culturally diverse workplace, centered on equity. With about 75 staff, 100 law students a year, and a nearly $10 million annual budget, EBCLC is the largest provider of free legal services in Alameda County, providing multimodal, collaborative, and holistic legal services to over 4,000 clients annually and engaging in legislative and policy advocacy at the state and local level.
Position Summary:
The Clinical Program Coordinator provides essential administrative support for EBCLC’s Clinical Program, which provides hands-on legal experience for Berkeley Law students during the academic year as well as a summer program for law students from around the country. Under the direction of EBCLC’s Clinical Program Director, the Program Coordinator supports good working relationships with Berkeley Law and its in-house clinics, working closely with students, EBCLC clinical supervisors, EBCLC alumni, and law school faculty and administrators. The Clinical Program Coordinator also works closely with EBCLC’s Development and Communications team providing critical support for EBCLC’s alumni giving program and biannual giving campaigns. The position requires someone with solid organizational and problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work well with a wide variety of people.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Clinical Program Director in planning and implementing student recruitment strategies and processes for EBCLC’s clinical program. Create, update, and distribute collateral material for student recruitment.
- Plan, publicize and coordinate recruitment activities as directed.
- Support the integration of EBCLC’s Clinical Program at Berkeley Law ensuring EBCLC is included in all clinic activities such as the all-clinic info session and that clinical written materials are up to date and accurate.
- Oversee the application process for fall, spring, and summer terms and manage the enrollment of returning students in coordination with EBCLC clinics.
- Support EBCLC’s triannual student orientation by arranging all logistics including facilities, media, and catering, and handling all communications and required paperwork with students.
- Provide administrative support for the fall, spring, and summer terms, including managing and reconciling student enrollment and registration in appropriate courses in Berkeley Law’s online platforms.
- Provide logistical support for EBCLC’s classroom seminar for the spring and fall semesters, including communicating student assignments, monitoring attendance, corresponding with students, assisting with student accommodation requests, etc.
- Assist with scheduling, notetaking, and logistics for EBCLC’s monthly Clinical Supervisors’ meetings.
- Assist the Clinical Program Director in coordinating participation, handling registration logistics, and communicating with staff for clinical conferences and programs.
- Assist with publicizing and coordinating events between EBCLC and Berkeley Law.
- Provide the Clinical Program Director with general administrative support, including maintaining electronic files, compiling presentation materials, editing documents, coordinating meetings, and the like.
- Provide Berkeley Law students with logistical support related to their clinic, including reserving space for client meetings, and troubleshooting technology issues, in the office.
- Assist and support EBCLC’s Development and Communications team identifying opportunities for clinical student recognition and clinical program publicity.
- Work with the Individual Giving Manager and Clinical Program Director to support alumni giving campaigns, graduation announcement, and EBCLC’s alumni newsletter, including identifying student success stories and drafting copy.
- Collaborate with the Development and Communications team to create EBCLC’s annual graduation website and support planning for Berkeley Law’s annual public interest graduation.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Two years of administrative experience, including proficient to intermediate skills with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point).
- Experience supporting fundraising in an administrative capacity.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of groups, including law students, attorneys, faculty, and administrators.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion, be adaptable to various competing demands, and demonstrate the highest level of customer/client service and response experience with de-escalation desirable.
Salary and Benefits
Starting hourly rate for this full-time non-exempt position is $35.71-$40.66 based on the number of years of prior relevant experience, as dictated by EBCLC’s salary scale. This is a bargaining unit position.
Workplace Expectations
EBCLC is a hybrid workplace. The expectation is that the Clinical Program Coordinator will work in our offices in Berkeley, California three days a week, including Wednesdays, to assist students on-site. The Clinical Program Coordinator will also attend and provide support at EBCLC’s weekly seminar and clinical program events at Berkeley Law School. EBCLC will provide the necessary equipment to fulfill the job responsibilities of working from home.
