Summary

This is a shared position between Black Women for Wellness and Black Women for Wellness Action Project ( 501c3 and 501c4 affiliate).

The Policy Analyst is responsible for helping to develop and implement the priorities and platform of the c3 and c4 affiliates. In addition, communicating with policymakers, key stakeholders, media, and the community about policy priorities. This includes both analyzing and advocacy of policy and budget that would positively impact Black women and girls and throughout California.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research, development and implementation of the policy platform
  • Work with Policy Director to build and maintain BWW as a leader in Reproductive Justice policy at a local, state and federal level
  • Liaison to external policy partners including but not limited to lobbyist and consultants
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with external organizations to push policy priorities
  • Working with Policy Director to create policy materials including fact sheets, letter of support research and media materials
  • Liaison to media surrounding all policy-related information
  • Measure the effectiveness of policy work/initiatives; define and lead change to meet objectives
  • Serve as an ambassador of BWW’s mission and policy and advocacy priorities; develop and maintain relationships across constituents and stakeholders necessary
  • Oversee the planning and execution of events such as policy breakfasts and roundtables to encourage dialogue and ultimately better policies, programs, and practices
  • Liaison with In Our Own Voice - National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda policy team. Collaborating with National and State partners policy platform
  • Grant writing and reporting to funders in the policy area
  • Frequent travel is required
  • Other office duties as needed

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration or a related degree required, advanced degree preferred (Masters or J.D.)
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in non-profit or government
  • At Least 3-year experience working with media*
  • In-depth/Expert understanding of city, state and federal legislative and budget processes
  • In-depth knowledge on reproductive health, right and justice issues impacting Black women
  • Deep commitment to social justice, policy advocacy and research
  • Track-record of high-level impact on policy issues in the human services field and/or reproductive health right and justice field
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft word and PowerPoint or similar programs
  • Entrepreneurial, flexible, creative, energetic, hard-working and unafraid of challenges
  • Strong, proactive project management skills with solid experience managing and
  • coordinating research projects, policy analysis, and high-impact advocacy campaigns
  • Experience using social media in advocacy campaigns

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
