Role and Responsibilities
As Director of Government Relations, you will report to BA’s CEO and collaborate with BA staff across the organization being responsible for:
- Government Relations Strategy: Develop, implement, oversee, and support (in conjunction with CEO) a comprehensive government affairs strategy that aligns with the association's goals and policy priorities.
- Lobbying: Cultivate established relationships with government officials, legislators, and regulatory agencies to advance the association's interests and advocate for favorable policies.
- Advocacy Management: Develop action plans to implement BA’s policy priorities, including oversight of coordination of internal resources such as BA member company lobbyists and other professionals, outside consultants, and other coalition partners.
- Legislative Outreach: Represent the association at government hearings, meetings, and events to articulate the association’s positions and influence decision-makers.
- Communication: Maintain open communication with BA team and membership addressing issues and concerns, providing legislative updates, and tracking the progress of conversations with key government offices and officials.
- Education: Educate lawmakers via a robust outreach strategy about the industry by communicating complex concepts via tools such as distributing one-pagers, factsheets, reports, and testimony.
- Coalition Building: Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the association’s advocacy and legal efforts.
- Industry Engagement: Participate in industry conferences as a speaker, communicate on behalf of the association and crypto industry at large to media outlets, and author various op-eds or media content to effectively communicate the association’s lobbying and strategic goals.
- Compliance and Reporting: Work with BA’s Chief of Staff to ensure compliance with all relevant lobbying and reporting requirements.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must:
- Have a bachelor's degree in government relations, political science, public policy, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, Congressional or Administration work, or a related role, with a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
- Have a thorough understanding of policymaking processes in the Executive Agencies - White House, Senate, and House
- A demonstrated interest in and understanding of crypto and blockchain technology, and is passionate about advancing the industry’s policy interests. In-depth knowledge of relevant policy issues and a demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and persuasively communicate the organization's positions to diverse audiences
Our Ideal Candidate is well established in their career and has already demonstrated that they can play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the government relations and industry engagement strategy. They will be based in Washington DC and able to make an immediate impact through strong strategic leadership, established relationships with key government representatives, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, educational outreach, and effectively communicating the association’s positions on various policy matters to both media and government officials. We want someone who will “jump into action” when new issues arise and work to coordinate others in the industry to work from the same playbook.
Compensation Information
- Base Salary Range: USD $185,000-$220,000 annually
- Possible salary increases and bonuses for strong performance
