Profile of the Ideal Candidate

When possible and appropriate, the VP, Operations and Planning should engage with their own professional network, both individuals and organizations, in support of broadening the CE International network.


Position Purpose and Relationship to Our Work and Mission

The VP OP is a key member of CE International’s Executive Leadership Team and as such will play a key role in the overall development of the organization and in setting its strategic direction. The VP OP reports to the CEO and indirectly to the Board of Directors. The VP OP is a key thought partner to the CEO in fulfilling the organization’s mission and for establishing excellence in organizational operations and in supporting business development to drive sustainable growth, while also understanding the urgency to positively impact children’s lives.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


Organization Management and Compliance

  1. Establish excellence in nonprofit/NGO operating policies, procedures and practices by supporting the organization’s mission and vision, compliance with key laws and regulations, providing guidance for daily operations of the organization and maintaining an annual operations calendar.
  2. In coordination with the CEO and the VP, Growth and Impact, establish strategic priorities and offer updates and reports to the Board of Directors, as requested.
  3. Support the maintenance and filing of key organizational records such as the Corporate Book and other critical corporate records.
  4. Communicate and work with external specialists in Human Resources and Benefits to ensure compliance and on-going improvements in these areas.
  5. Identify and participate in the recruitment of talent (at times, hiring may have to be done expediently to meet contracting requirements).
  6. Communicate with Legal Counsel as required to update nonprofit registrations and attend to other matters that impact nonprofit/NGO compliance.
  7. Elevate the organization’s profile by establishing and maintaining business recognitions such as the United States GuideStar and acquiring International Standards Organization Certification (ISO).


Financial Planning, Management & Sustainability

  1. Participate in the organization’s annual budget development process and work closely with the finance department to ensure sound fiscal and financial systems management.
  2. Monitor and analyze the data gathered through organization's metrics, budgets and financial reports and collaborate with the CEO and VP, Growth and Impact, and department heads to develop business plans for each department.
  3. Support the stewardship of donor and funder relationships and monitor reserve funds and other financial accounts.


Business Development

  1. Participate in developing plans for, and when requested leading expansion activities, including investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances and partnership as approved by the CEO
  2. Advise on business development processes and oversee the response to funding opportunities that require operational input such as developing technical budgets.
  3. Support the development of contracts and agreements to comply with legal standards.


Program Development and Outreach

  1. Work closely with Chief Program Officer to sustain a high performing culture that encourages the creation of quality products and services using strategic development steps and processes; and to support the development of programs and services that meet the mission of CE International.


Required Education and Experience:

  • 8-10 years’ working experience in organizational development, project management or related field
  • Masters level qualification in relevant field such as education policy, global education, international development; management, public administration.
  • Proven experience as an Operations Director, Chief Operating Officer or relevant management role.
  • Experience with complex contracting, grant acquisition and grant oversight of US Government Contracts.
  • Working basic knowledge of data analysis, monitoring and evaluation
  • Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
  • Experience writing articles, briefs and reports
  • Ability to deliver oral presentations and trainings to diverse, global audiences
  • Excellent team player and facilitator
  • Must be able to travel internationally, on a limited basis, as required


Required Skills:

  • Basic understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance, Marketing etc.
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
  • Ability to quickly understand and absorb cutting edge education topics, issues and needs of the education sector
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.


Preferred Skills and Experience:

·        Grant writing and proposal development experience, including developing and submitting USAID or grants funded by other governments aid agencies; understanding of federal regulatory requirements and compliance related to programs and services is preferred

·        Direct experience managing and/or designing USAID or USG contracts and grants

·        Ability to speak and communicate in Spanish, French or other foreign languages

·        Familiarity with project management software, such as Monday.com, Asana, or Trello

  • Strong budgeting and reporting skills


Compensation:

Commensurate with education and years of experience


Work Environment:

This position is performed in an open office environment. There is also a telework schedule available.
