POSITION DESCRIPTION

Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath’s Care and Justice team is looking for an associate deputy responsible for supporting the Youth and Family Wellbeing Deputy and Equity and Human Services Deputy. The Family Wellbeing and Human Services Associate Deputy will assist with the Supervisor’s initiatives and projects related to the child welfare, economic development, older adults and the disabled community, education, and equity policy portfolios. The role is part of the Supervisor’s Care and Justice team focused on helping our most vulnerable communities thrive.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Policy analysis: Conduct research, analyze information, meet with key stakeholders (internal and external), and draft policy recommendations.

• Stakeholder engagement: Work with community-based organizations, individuals with lived experience, County departments, community leaders, and key stakeholders to address important issues across the County and Third District. Ensure that community and youth voices are elevated and included. Conduct site visits and meetings with community-based organizations.

• Project management: Comfortable leading various projects from start to finish, ensuring collaboration and partnership, and tracking multiple initiatives at once.

• Meeting support: Assist in preparing for various meetings, drafting memoranda and briefing materials.

• Event support: Lead on assigned events, securing rentals and A/V, managing invitations and promotion, and other assigned tasks.

• Special projects: Lead on special projects based on policy interest or as assigned.

• Other responsibilities as assigned


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.

• Political experience, particularly in LA County, is a major plus.

• Ability to work in Downtown Los Angeles office.

• Strong interpersonal skills and political acumen.

• Positive, self-starter comfortable making recommendations and solving diverse issues.

• Comfortable working under tight deadlines with shifting priorities.

• Able to work occasional evenings and weekends.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Annual Salary Range: $65,504.40 - $107,628.12

The appointee will receive an annual salary, commensurate with qualifications, and earning history, as well as an excellent program of benefits that allow employees to choose the benefits that meet their specific needs.


The package includes:

Retirement Plan - New appointees will participate in a contributory defined benefit plan.

Cafeteria Benefit Plan - The County funds its cafeteria plan using tax-free contribution of an additional 14.5% to 17% of the employee’s monthly salary.

Non-Elective Days - Ten (10) paid days per year with the option to buy an additional 1 to 20 elective annual leave days.

Flexible Spending Accounts - In addition to tax-free medical and dependent care spending accounts, the County contributes $75 per month to an employee’s dependent care spending account.

Savings Plan (401k) - Optional tax-deferred income plan that may include a County matching contribution up to 4% of employee’s salary.

Deferred Compensation Plan (457b) - Optional tax-deferred income plan that may include a County matching contribution up to 4% of employee’s salary.

Holidays - Thirteen (13) paid days per year
