About the Role

The Senior Associate for External Affairs reports to the Senior Director, External Affairs & Strategic Communications and is a new salaried position on the External Affairs team at Global Ties U.S. This role will cover a range of functions, including the core areas of advocacy and partnerships. This team member will also develop and support overall communications and special projects intended to raise the visibility of the organization and the nationwide Global Ties Network to key external audiences.

Essential Functions and Duties 

- Advocacy:

o Support the build out and maintenance of an online “hub” (knowledge / action center) with materials and engagement opportunities for Global Ties Network advocacy

o Track relevant developments and legislation in Congress and prepare regular updates for internal and external use

o Develop new resources, calls to action, and email updates for the Global Ties Network to support year-round advocacy

o Support planning and implementation of our annual Advocacy Day(s) and virtual advocacy workshops

o Work with the team on the annual preparation of Impact Reports and on leveraging these resources for maximum effect

o Engage directly with Congressional offices to coordinate meetings

o Coordinate with member and partner organizations on advocacy activities and events

- Partnerships:

o Help maintain, steward, and strengthen existing organizational partnerships

o Support the development of new prospective partnership opportunities

o Support the development and implementation of a strategic outreach plan for embassy partnerships around the annual National Meeting and beyond

o Support communication with Global Ties U.S. leadership bodies and their events

- External Affairs & Communications

o Shape and support the planning, implementation, and elevation of multimedia marketing and visibility activities and campaigns, such as Citizen Diplomacy Day, our 65th anniversary, various awards, and fundraising initiatives

o Contribute to the development and promotion of signature products, such as our Annual Report and impact studies

o Support the external affairs dimensions of organizational events, including the Global Ties Forum series, new Dinner Diplomacy events, and more

o Develop and support communications opportunities and content for Global Ties U.S. programs and activities, including social media content and toolkits

o Develop ideas and content for executive visibility and new opportunities for organizational visibility at key conferences and events

o Develop, pursue, proofread, and finalize editorial content for the website and digital publications

o Assist with creation and editing of graphics, visuals, and other designed assets to support visibility opportunities noted above

Minimum Qualifications / Experience 

· Degree in related field (e.g. journalism, public relations, political science, international affairs) highly preferred

· Minimum 3+ years of relevant work experience, including at least some of the essential functions described above

· Proficient in MS Suite and other computer applications

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Demonstrated experience building working relationships and partnerships

· Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet tight and shifting deadlines

· Commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and follow-through

· Experience writing correspondence, as well as content for email communications, websites, and social media

· Must be a self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong sense of curiosity and initiative

· Experience working on or with Capitol Hill a plus
