Job Summary

The Center on the Developing Child (CDC) at Harvard University leverages the power of science in pursuit of better, more equitable outcomes for young children facing adversity. The Communications Coordinator for the Center serves as a key team contributor to communications projects across an interdisciplinary, University-wide Center.
This role will support a growing, 4-7-person Communications team responsible for maintaining and expanding the Center’s widely respected, global platform for the effective communication of the translated science of child development. The role involves simultaneous coordination of multiple projects with competing and evolving priorities and timelines. It will require working collaboratively with Communications staff members as well as other Center staff and external vendors in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
Position Description
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Making routine content updates to the Center website, including edits to text and uploads of imagery and documents, using a content management system (WordPress)
- Helping to maintain the Center’s social media accounts, including regularly monitoring and responding to comments, messages, and mentions across social channels, and supporting the Communications Lead in creating and maintaining a social media calendar and library, and creating and posting new content
- Synthesizing all metrics for monthly reporting (newsletters, media, inquiries, presentations, social media, podcast, and website metrics) and supporting collection of metrics data as needed
- Updating and maintaining an electronic Sharepoint library of graphics, presentation tools, and other archives of communications-related elements and templates, including logos, letterhead, standard copy, and photos
- Working with project managers and directors across the Center to ensure accurate and timely updates of website content
- Providing podcast production support, including audio editing (can learn on the job), calendar/scheduling, and helping with other logistics
- Providing video production support, including calendar/scheduling, call sheets, and helping with other logistics
- Managing Center’s external request management systems and communications team Salesforce activities, including triaging interview requests from reporters, permissions and translation requests, and requests for speakers/presentations at external events; maintain templated response for these requests, and coordinate more complex responses as needed, including scheduling meetings for discussion
- Supporting the Center Director and other staff members in preparing slide presentations for speaking engagements
- Handling Communications activities related to Center events, including publicity and video interview set-up
- Providing general administrative support to the Communications team, including but not limited to scheduling meetings
- Process payments for Communications team purchases. Manage team subscriptions and invoicing, and serve as general liaison to the finance team
- Provide administrative support to Communications team and other Center teams around candidate searches and hiring processes, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
This position is a term appointment for two years from the date of hire, with a possibility of extension.

Basic qualifications:
- Two year’s relevant work experience required
- MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint required

Additional Qualifications and Skills
Additional qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or related discipline
- Experience using content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and email marketing tools (e.g., MailChimp)
- Experience in customer service or media relations a plus
- Experience with publication layout/design, images/graphics creation, and/or video and audio editing also a plus
- Previous editorial experience (online or print) is a plus
- Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign is desired

HGSE is currently developing dynamic workplace models which will actively support a combination of on-campus and remote work (within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business) where business and operational needs allow. - Paid Time Off: 3-4 weeks of accrued vacation time per year (3 weeks for support staff and 4 weeks for administrative/professional staff), 12 accrued sick days per year, 12.5 holidays plus a Winter Recess in December/January, 3 personal days per year (prorated based on date of hire), and up to 12 weeks of paid leave for new parents who are primary care givers.
