NASW is hiring an Insurance Accounting Manager for its insurance operations, Assurance Services, Inc. (ASI). ASI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NASW (collectively, the Association) and exists to manage social workers and other behavioral health professional insurance programs with our policyholders’ best interests in mind. Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an Accounting Manager. In this position, you will lead the accounting function for our insurance operations on a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) basis for both ASI and NASWIC, and manage and ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory reporting requirements by working with the captive manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in insurance accounting, excellent leadership and time management skills, and a proactive approach to problem solving.
The position reports to ASI CEO and collaborates with the NASW CFO.
Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of the insurance accounting process on a GAAP basis.
Research, interpret, and apply GAAP to insurance accounting transactions and issues.
Coordinate with the captive manager to prepare the Annual Statement, including all exhibits and schedules, as well as the audited financial statements.
Prepare monthly financial statements.
Coordinate with NASW’s Chief Financial Officer for consolidation of financials into the Association’s financials.
Lead the process and collaborate with internal teams to generate the information necessary for all GAAP and statutory insurance reporting schedules.
Lead the audit of the financial statements, working closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders.
Perform revenue and expense accruals, accounting and reconciliations.
Participate in special projects as needed to support the broader goals of the finance and accounting department.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification, preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in P&C insurance accounting (both GAAP and SAP) and regulatory reporting and compliance.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Leadership experience, including supervising and developing staff members.
- Public accounting experience preferred, but not required.
