Background:
The Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC) is a statewide, immigrant and
refugee-led collaboration. Our mission is to build power, amplify our voices, and organize
communities to advocate for our rights. Our vision is a stronger, more inclusive Tennessee
where people of all nationalities, immigration statuses, and racial identities can belong and
thrive.

Fellowship Description:
The Policy & Advocacy Fellow will work closely with our policy and advocacy team to drive our
statewide advocacy initiatives forward. The fellow will be actively involved in conducting
comprehensive policy research, creating engaging community education materials, and
contributing to the strategic planning of policy campaigns. This fellowship offers valuable
opportunities to develop skills and gain experience in political education, legislative campaign
planning, community outreach, and the intersection of community organizing and policy.

We are seeking an innovative and self-driven individual who demonstrates a strong commitment
to social justice, advocacy, and positive change. The ideal candidate will possess great
analytical skills, creative problem-solving abilities, and a passion for community engagement.
This fellowship is designed for someone who is eager to learn, and adaptable to changing
political landscapes.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct background research on elected officials' and candidates' positions on
immigration issues and other relevant policy areas; identify key partners for building
coalitions around policy campaigns;
  • Draft policy briefs, reports, and other written materials to support TIRRC's advocacy
efforts;
  • Coordinate and facilitate community forums and workshops to educate and engage
community members on relevant issues;
  • Support the development and implementation of grassroots advocacy campaigns;
  • Assist TIRRC education and organizing staff in creating community-based curriculum,

outreach materials, and strategies that engage directly affected community members in
developing policy agendas and encourage civic participation;

  • Support the scheduling of meetings and presentations with community members,
partners, and outside groups;
  • Participate in communications training and media events;
  • Collaborate with the communications team to create content for social media,
newsletters, and other outreach materials;
  • Assist with civic engagement efforts leading up to local, state, and federal elections;
  • Attend meetings and events related to TIRRC campaigns and networks; provide
subsequent briefings to staff and members;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience:
Belief in TIRRC’s mission and commitment to social justice;
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to a new organizing culture;
  • Strong research and writing skills;
  • Proficiency with computers, Google Suite, or other office productivity tools;
  • Motivation to work on substantive immigration topics;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends;
  • Fluency in English required and another language preferred;
  • Must have reliable transportation.
Pay and Benefits:
Compensation: Hourly rate $17.40/hour, 15 hours a week;
  • Benefits: Paid sick time commensurate with the number of hours worked and 24/7
access to the Employee Assistance Program;
  • Will receive regular training from experts in the field of communications, community
organizing, and advocacy;
  • Letters of recommendation are provided upon successful completion of the fellowship.
