Director, Public Affairs

Overview

The Lighthouse Church and Ministries seeks a strategic and dynamic Director of Public Affairs to lead our community engagement and enhance our organization's public image in Houston, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a deep understanding of public policy, and a commitment to fostering sustainable, positive impacts for target communities.

Responsibilities

This pivotal role involves developing and implementing public affairs strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring effective communication across various platforms.

Community Engagement - Actively build and strengthen connections between The Lighthouse Church and communities in the Houston region. Present the mission and vision of The Lighthouse Church to diverse groups across all socioeconomic demographics.

Government Relations - Establish relationships with local, regional, state, and federal government officials and departments. Cultivate sustainable partnerships that expand the scope of the organization’s impact for the people of the region.

Chamber Liaison - Represent The Lighthouse Church at meetings and events of the local chambers of commerce in which it has membership. Research and identify other chambers that would be beneficial to join.

Policy Issues - Maintain strong awareness of local, regional, and national news cycles and current issues and topics generating broad awareness. With the Chief of Communications, prepare positioning for the organization and determine topics on which to use The Lighthouse Church voice.

Marketing Campaigns - Assist Communications division in developing and executing integrated marketing communications plans that showcase the impact of The Lighthouse Church throughout the region and generate positive public and media sentiment.

Special Event Liaison – Attend The Lighthouse Church events, as directed, and engage with key stakeholders in attendance. Represent The Lighthouse Church at community events in order to promote the organization and identify opportunities for partnership with businesses and civic organizations.

Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

● 5+ years of experience in public affairs, communications, or government relations, with a demonstrated track record of success.

● Strong understanding of the Houston political landscape, local government structures, and key public policy issues.

● Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for diverse audiences.

● Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials and community leaders.

● Experience in crisis management and media relations.

● Strong leadership and team management skills, with a collaborative approach to working with others.

● Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media platforms.
