DVP seeks a bilingual, part-time Client Services Assistant to join a passionate team of attorneys and advocates helping survivors of intimate partner violence and their children gain safety and independence. Candidates must be bilingual English/Spanish. The Client Services Assistant provides critical support in a variety of ways to make the client experience as efficient and effective as possible. The ideal candidate can thrive working both independently and collaboratively, is self-motivated, and has a passion for providing high-quality and compassionate services for vulnerable populations. This is a hybrid position with a flexible 20 hours per week.


About DVP

The Domestic Violence Project (DVP)’s mission is to help survivors of intimate partner violence and their children live free of violence and abuse, marshalling the combination of legal and advocacy services necessary to secure justice and a dignified quality of life. We consider intimate partner violence – regardless of gender, sexual identity, religion, immigration, or other status – to be a human rights violation. We serve an average of 1,600 survivors annually across all five boroughs of NYC through our comprehensive direct services (legal representation in family law and immigration matters, and advocacy case management), plus an additional 1,000+ reached through community outreach, education, and clinics. The Client Services team specializes in advocacy for survivors including in matters of housing, emergency shelter, criminal justice, civil legal, and public benefits; as well as holistic supports including empowerment groups, Know Your Rights workshops, and direct assistance.


Job Responsibilities

The Client Services Assistant will report to the Director of Client Services and is responsible for the following:

• Intakes: Conduct prospective client intakes by responding to messages left on DVP’s warmline voicemail and email inbox in a timely, professional, and trauma-informed manner; Maintain accurate records of communications

• Client Text Communications: Schedule and send alerts and reminders to clients using our text message service, Signalvine

• Translation: Provide live Spanish/English translation for attorney/client meetings (at an agreed upon schedule); translate documents, communications, and flyers as needed

• Community partner coordination: Help coordinate and track new community-based partnership opportunities for staff to present outreach; Facilitate referrals between agencies


Requirements and Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience working with survivors or other underserved populations.

• Fluent in Spanish and English.

• Proficiency working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and lifestyles.

• Ability to work with clients in a sensitive and trauma-informed manner.

• Strong organizational and administrative skills.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.

• Exceptional interpersonal, speaking, and writing skills and the ability to apply these skills in diverse situations.

• Interest in working within a multi-disciplinary legal framework.


Salary and Benefits

This is a bargaining unit position represented for collective bargaining purposes by the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, UAW, Local 2230. The salary range for this position is $27,387.04 - $29,244.43/year, commensurate with experience and assuming 20 hours/week worked. DVP is currently operating on a hybrid schedule: Main office days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with exception of client accompaniments, outreach, etc. Hybrid schedule may change upon needs of program. DVP office hours are 9am-5pm – this position’s hours will be flexible within that timeframe.
