Department: Policy and Government Affairs
Salary Hiring Range: $88,000-102,000 annually (paid bi-weekly)
Note: Competitive salary commensurate with supervisory and advocacy experience
FLSA: Exempt
Union Dues: 1.44% of bi-weekly pay.
Career Summary:
The Policy and Government Affairs team is seeking a high-performing and dedicated Senior Policy Advisor. In this role, the Senior Policy Advisor will provide leadership and regulatory advocacy in promoting ANA’s policies through direct contact with the Administration and relevant federal agencies, the development of actionable comment letters, and the development of deliverables to assist ANA members in understanding federal rules and regulations. The Senior Policy Advisor will lead a portfolio of work with preference, but not limited to reimbursement policy, coverage policy for RNs and APRNs and regulatory advocacy. The incumbent of this position will also review research, provide analysis of state and federal regulatory rules and legislation, and develop policy position statements.

What you will do:

  • Analyzes proposed and final Federal agency rules and regulations (published in the Federal Register) that have implications for health care and the nursing profession. Assumes accountability for dissemination of information on proposed comment opportunities to ANA stakeholders (internal and external). Coordinates on regulatory comment letters developed for submission by ANA and assumes accountability for planning, direction, management, and analysis of related activities.
  • Works collaboratively to update and develop policy and position statements, and legislative and regulatory briefings on nursing practice, healthcare issues and related topics.
  • Analyzes legislation at the federal and state levels for their impact on RNs/APRNS. Analyst expected to have knowledge of reimbursement systems and impact on payment policy and coverage of specific populations.
  • Develops materials associated with final regulations to assist ANA members and the nursing community at large in implementing these changes.
  • Identifies significant nomination opportunities published in the Federal Register. Assumes accountability for dissemination of information to ANA stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Communicates knowledge through well-written analysis, positions, blogs, journal articles, presentations and other communication channels in order to inform the work of the department, the association and the wider nursing community
  • Provides and coordinates health policy and nursing practice consultative services for C/SNAs, Organizational Affiliates and ANA Enterprise staff, working in and leading cross collaborative teams within the Entity.

What you bring to ANA:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Preference for RN, APRN, or master’s degree.

Related Work Experience:

  • Eight (8) or more years of demonstrated, high-level analysis, research in health care coverage and reimbursement from private and public payers. Consideration will be given in terms of years of work, for candidates with an advanced degree. Membership association experience is highly desirable. Prior work with nurses and/or healthcare provider issues strongly preferred. Experience, knowledge, and impact in the areas of healthcare transformation models, scope of practice issues, and regulatory advocacy strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Evidence of advanced professional development, including but not limited to:
  • Provider of nursing or health care.
  • Track record of increasing responsibility in a work or volunteer capacity.
  • Formal experience in healthcare policy, with preference for healthcare reimbursement and public and private payers.
  • Experience in evaluating healthcare regulations, legislation, and policy.

Work Schedule:
