Congressman Joe Morelle (D-NY-25) seeks experienced Communications Director to join his Washington, DC team. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer with demonstrated political instincts, have a thorough knowledge of managing press, and possess superior organization and team management skills. They should be a collaborative team player who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple tasks under strict deadlines.
This is not an entry level position. Candidates must have previous communications and press-related experience either on Capitol Hill or in adjacent fields. Ties to Upstate New York a plus.
Essential Job Functions:
· Leads strategy development and implementation of the Member’s communications objectives in consultation with senior staff;
· Directly manages multi-person communications team based in both Washington and in-district;
· Develops and executes press conferences and public events centered around core messaging areas;
· Oversees day-to-day press operations;
· Maintains relationships, pitches stories, and books interviews with national and local press outlets/oversees Press Secretary’s media outreach;
· Drafts and edits talking points, speeches, press releases, op-eds, and more;
· Oversees the Member’s social media and mass communications/franking program;
- Stays up to date on current events and legislation relevant to the Congressman, his priorities, and his district;
- Assists the Member and senior staff in other projects and duties as assigned.
***Job requires frequent availability on nights and weekends***
Salary Range:
$85,000-$95,000 (Commensurate with experience)
