Position Overview

The UN Foundation has prioritized global health since its inception, serving as a catalyst, convener, and innovator in collective action solutions to drive progress on global health goals. UNF has channeled over $1.34 billion in grants to the UN work on global health, marshalled collective action platforms to help the UN solve global health problems, built savvy advocacy campaigns, enhanced partnership reach of the UN, and forged strong and diversified relationships across a range of sectors and geographies, from diplomats to civil society.

The Senior Manager, Finance and Grants, Global Health, supports the team through financial management, grant reporting, and strategic analysis of projects and operations for the management team. The Manager also works closely with the entire Global Health team, as well as with the UN Foundation's Business Services and Budgets Reporting department, Strategic Planning & Implementation department, and Finance department to execute all finance, operations, contract, and grant activities.

This position is based in Washington, D.C.

Essential Functions

Financial Management

  • Manage Global Health team budget, tracking revenues and expenses across the organization and workstreams.
  • Query UN Foundation financial databases (Salesforce, as well as legacy software Financial Edge, GIFTS, and Raiser’s Edge), then manipulate data in Excel, to maintain a live budget model.
  • Ensure correct allocations of revenues and expenses across donor budgets.
  • Develop projections of cash flow and budget variance.
  • Maintain financial dashboard to track actual and projected cash flow, as well as variances from budget. Maintain individual workstream budgets and conduct periodic reviews with workstream leads.
  • Track consultants’ deliverables and manage accounts payable (invoicing/payment), including processing invoices.
  • Develop high-level funding briefs and other project briefing documents for senior leadership, as directed.
  • Model different budget scenarios, ad-hoc, to inform decision making of Global Health team leadership.
  • Reconcile monthly corporate credit card statements and approve Concur reports.

Donor Proposals and Reporting

  • Manage donor proposal and reporting timelines and processes. Develop and maintain a reporting calendar and matrix for the team.
  • Guide a collaborative process across the team tracking progress against indicators and results frameworks as part of annual reporting.
  • Prepare budget reports in donors’ templates.
  • Participate in meetings and calls with donor program officers to present budget reports and interpret the results.
  • Research new funding opportunities and help develop proposals, including liaising with the UN Foundation's Business Services and Budgets Reporting, Strategic Planning & Implementation, and Finance departments to provide appropriate Global Health programmatic and financial information for proposals.
  • Investigate and resolve issues associated with program and grant implementation.
  • Complete other special projects and duties as assigned.

Grants, Contracts & Compliance

  • Manage all contracting and grants forLiaise with UNF’s central contracts team to draft contractual agreements and contract amendments for Global Health, adhering to UNF templates and policies. This includes but is not limited to consultant, hotel, and vendor contracts; letters of invitation; and sub-grant agreements.
  • Mediate contract review/negotiations with third parties and also guide agreements through internal approval processes.
  • Ensure adherence with and compliance to all UN Foundation policies and donor rules and regulations.
  • Liaise with donors, vendors, consultants, and grantees to process agreements and reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain appropriate file documentation for all work products, for accumulation and retention of institutional knowledge.
  • Ensure timely and accurate responses to inquiries from within the organization, as well as any external audit requests.

Internal Coordination

  • Develop and implement new tools and strategies to optimize workflows and facilitate team’s collaborative work.
  • Manage quarterly and annual business planning; prepare updates and revisions as needed.
  • Serve as internal liaison with the UN Foundation's Business Services and Budgets Reporting, People & Culture, Finance, Strategic Planning & Implementation, and other departments to ensure compliance with UN Foundation rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely and accurate information to Global Health, UN Foundation, and external stakeholders as needed.Maintain working knowledge of the UNF agreement process (for both contracts and grants), and when to utilize the proper templates accordingly.     • Draft and review agreements and maintain an understanding of all agreement terms and applicable flow-downs, consulting with UNF’s finance/contracts team as needed. (As applicable to the role)
    • Attend training sessions provided by UNF’s contracts team to maintain and keep up to date with UNF’s current policies and procedures. (As applicable to the role)
    • Maintain a strong knowledge of UNF’s Salesforce database to be able to process and track agreements, extract information and prepare reports. (As applicable to the role)
    • Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • 5-6 years of related work experience.
  • Excellent operations, project management, organizational, budgeting, and logistical abilities.
  • Experience managing complex budgets and completing detailed financial reporting to donors.
  • Ability to provide high-level strategic analysis of projects and best practice recommendations to drive the Global Health Team’s strategic goals and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Experience developing various agreement types (contracts, grants, contributions, MOUs).
  • Experience working in a grants coordination or administrative capacity is an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, work well under pressure, and prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and with other colleagues across teams in an efficient, coordinated, and flexible manner.
  • Ability to drive projects from inception to completion and work independently.
  • Continuous learning skills and the ability to synthesize information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and mastery of Excel.
  • Knowledge of the United Nations system and interest in International Development, International Affairs, and/or the non-profit sector is a plus.
  • Ability to meet regular attendance/tardiness policy.
