Manager of Government Affairs
The National Energy & Fuels Institute (NEFI), a leading voice for America's heating fuel dealers and home comfort providers, is searching for a Full-Time Manager of Government Affairs to play a crucial role in advancing legislative and regulatory priorities on behalf its members. The ideal candidate will live in the Washington, DC Metro area and have passion for promoting policies that support workforce development, encourage business growth and innovation, and preserve consumer choice and a fair and competitive market for our mostly family-owned and operated businesses.
Job Responsibilities
· Track and analyze federal legislation and regulatory policies affecting association members
· Develop and implement strategies for bipartisan engagement with policymakers and their staff to advance policy priorities
· Collaborate with the President & CEO and consultants to develop long-term advocacy strategies
· Monitor and attend relevant Congressional committee hearings and markups
· Draft newsletter articles, legislative alerts, and action alerts on issues of interest
· Prepare and deliver periodic reports to NEFI members, Board of Directors, and committees on legislative developments
· Create talking points and issue briefs to support advocacy efforts
· Coordinate Capitol Hill meetings and member fly-ins
· Assist in drafting congressional testimony, regulatory comments, and public statements
· Maintain relationships with allied organizations, coalitions and partnerships
· Assist in managing the association's federal PAC, including attendance at PAC events
· Support broader association initiatives, such as membership development and fundraising
· Monitor significant state-level policy developments as they relate to federal priorities
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree
· Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Congress, a federal agency, or government affairs for a business or trade association/non-profit
· Demonstrated understanding of federal legislative and regulatory processes
· Experience in strategic outreach, advocacy, and communication
· Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
· High level of professionalism and interpersonal skills
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Detail-oriented with strong analytical capabilities
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with legislative tracking, grassroots advocacy, PAC management software, and generative AI preferred
· Understanding of PAC operations and FEC regulations a plus
· Must have flexibility
