U.S. Senator Mazie K. Hirono has an opening for a Community Liaison in her Honolulu, Hawaii office. The Community Liaison represents the Senator within assigned issue areas, responds to constituent correspondence, submits inquiries to federal agencies on behalf of constituents and community groups, and develops relationships with appropriate community organizations.  This is not an entry level position.

Successful candidates will have experience with the Department of Defense and its assets in Hawaii, as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs and its assets in the state.

The liaison identifies projects and issues requiring action at the federal level and works with legislative counterparts in the Senator’s DC office to achieve a resolution. The liaison suggests meetings and site visits for the Senator, drafts briefing memos, and staffs the Senator during related meetings in state.

Professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork are required. A familiarity and appreciation of Hawaii’s multi-ethnic society and the uniqueness of each island community is preferred, but not required. This position provides an opportunity to be part of a hard-working cohesive team and to make a difference in the lives of others.
