Reports to: EVP & Chief Policy Officer
Location: Hybrid Washington, D.C.
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Manager of Advocacy Events & Projects who will be primarily responsible for managing the development and execution of advocacy events, projects and programming, promoting awareness of policy priorities, resources and advocacy actions, and providing administrative support to the EVP & Chief Policy Officer, as needed.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage, develop and execute AFSP policy and advocacy events and projects, in coordination with the EVP and Chief Policy Officer, and through team-based support. Includes the annual Advocacy Forum, congressional briefings and policy webinars, Advocacy Action days in collaboration with AFSP chapters and partner organizations, and other advocacy projects and awareness initiatives.
- Initiate written advocacy communications, including blogs, letters to support events and other relevant documents necessary to advance advocacy projects in consultation with federal and state policy and advocacy team.
- Track and manage reporting of annual advocacy outcomes and advocacy event related data through policy team support and in consultation with Impact Measurement.
- Assist with the management of the budget for advocacy events and projects, including providing recommendations to the EVP & Chief Policy Officer in the development of the annual budget.
- Assist with the development and delivery of advocacy training to organization’s volunteer advocacy networks in collaboration with policy team.
- Provide executive level administrative support to EVP & Chief Policy Officer, as needed, including communications to the National Public Policy Council.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field
Experience and/or Training: 2 years’ experience in a similar position, preferably with a nonprofit organization
Technology/Equipment: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting and Google drive
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:. Bachelor’s degree
Experience and/or Training: 4 years’ experience in advocacy events planning and program management
Technology/Equipment Experience with grassroots management software, Quorum.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Experience/interest in engaging and motivating a large group of volunteers.
- Familiarity with and/or interest in suicide prevention and mental health issues.
- Knowledge of advocacy and event/project planning.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail; must be able to manage multiple assignments and shift priorities while maintaining a high-quality level in work product.
- Must demonstrate high motivation and initiative for accomplishing individual and team goals.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to produce independent written work quickly, efficiently, and error-free.
- Ability to arrange and coordinate travel for groups of all sizes.

- Attend all mandatory meetings and trainings.
- Ability to work a full-time schedule and have regular in-office and remote attendance.
- All other work-related duties as assigned.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while moving files or small packages. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Hybrid work environment, with a portion of the employee’s time spent in the Washington, D.C. public policy office and a portion of time spent working remotely. 1-2 days working in office.
