Description
While overseeing the divisions of Public Affairs and Video Services, the responsibility of the Public Affairs Manager is to develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy, as well as cultivate and manage professional communications between the County and its citizens. Maintain the County’s identity standards, including logos, color schemes and templates for official items such as business cards, letterhead, etc. Expand the County’s various “owned” communications channels including web, e-newsletters and email blasts, social media, and broadcast and video services. Manages contracts, vendors, and staff that support communications and community relations programs; and track and report performance to County leadership and other constituents.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field and five (5) to seven (7) years of related communications and marketing experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Serves as the primary spokesperson for the County, delivering clear, accurate and consistent messaging to the public and media.
Manage the County’s social media platforms, leveraging AI and emerging technologies to enhance community engagement and public outreach. Thorough knowledge of the competitive and ever-changing communications and marketing methods for a civic environment that includes social media and AI.
Oversees the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and process, ensuring timely and accurate responses by the Public Information Officer, and serves as a backup for handling FOIA requests when necessary.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including automated office equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Physical demand requirements are those for light to moderate walking on varied surfaces.
