Job Description
The Advocacy and Policy Coordinator is a motivated and detail-oriented individual primarily focused on state advocacy, with additional responsibilities supporting federal advocacy efforts. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Advocacy and Policy, this role contributes to meaningful policy and advocacy initiatives aimed at improving the lives of individuals with asthma and allergies. The Coordinator has a strong passion for health policy, an eagerness to learn, and the ability to work collaboratively.
The Coordinator will support the administration of advocacy and policy materials, including letters, comments, and action alerts for grassroots engagement. Duties will also include tracking legislative and regulatory developments at federal and state levels pertaining to asthma and allergies, preparing and disseminating advocacy campaigns, including coordinating with coalition partners and stakeholders to amplify messaging and support grassroots mobilization efforts. In addition to advocacy, the Coordinator will support policy research and analysis related to AAFA’s advocacy priorities, including preparing briefing materials and presentations.
This position requires broad experience, skills, and knowledge in policies, procedures, and practices. The Coordinator exercises a wide degree of creativity and latitude, has the ability to work independently, and demonstrates excellent judgment. The Coordinator is also adept and savvy in the use of technology and adapts quickly to tools needed to support the department.
Requirements:Education
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, public health or a related field required
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience
- Experience working in a role related to public policy, political science, public health, or a related field.
- Experience in or knowledge of advocacy, nonprofit operations, or legislative processes is a plus.
