JOB POSTING: Policy and Advocacy Coordinator

The Democratic Women’s Caucus (DWC) is seeking a passionate, proactive, and detail-oriented Policy and Advocacy Coordinator to work full-time in Washington, D.C. This role will play a critical role in advancing the DWC’s policy priorities by supporting legislative advocacy efforts, building partnerships with outside organizations, and coordinating initiatives that promote women’s rights and gender equality. This position is perfect for an individual passionate about empowering women through policy change, committed to social justice, and eager to make a tangible impact. The DWC amplifies the expertise and voices of the 95 Democratic women in the U.S. House of Representatives. It serves as a convenor and collaborator to tell the stories of America’s women and how legislation advances or harms women’s opportunities, security and health.   

This role reports to the Executive Director of DWC and works closely with the DWC Chair, other DWC staff, and DWC members and their staff.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Advocacy Support: 
  • Coordinate and implement advocacy efforts around DWC’s priorities by regularly engaging with stakeholders, DWC member offices, and constituents.
  • Collaborate with outside organizations to create story banks and other tools to capture the impact of proposed policies on women’s experiences and assist the DWC communications team in disseminating the experiences.
  • Ensure that the DWC’s policy priorities are elevated through effective public messaging by working with the DWC communications team.
  • Organize strategic efforts, meetings, and events to advance DWC’s work to support women and their families.
  • Work with the DWC communications team to create content to promote and raise awareness about DWC’s priorities, work, and key policy issues affecting women. Assist in crafting compelling stories that capture the impact of policies on women’s lives.
  • Policy & Legislative Work:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to uplift the legislative work of DWC members to advance women’s rights and gender equality through drafting letters, creating policy agendas, organizing strategic meetings, and more.
  • Track and analyze legislative and policy activities in Congress, the Senate, the Administration and at the state level related to women’s issues and provide recommendations on how DWC should respond as well as provide regular updates to DWC staff and members
  • Conduct research on policy issues affecting women and compile relevant data, reports, and briefing materials. 
  • Event Coordination: 
  • Coordinate logistics for policy briefings, shadow hearings, roundtables, and other events for DWC members, staff and allied organizations. This includes event planning, preparing materials, and managing event set-up and breakdown.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in policy, advocacy, or government affairs, preferable. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, compelling policy documents and advocacy materials in an easily understandable and digestible way
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Deep knowledge of the legislative and policy-making process, particularly as it pertains to women’s rights and gender equality.
  • Ability to manage events, including logistics, communications, and attendee coordination.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with large groups of people.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a strong passion for advancing women’s issues.

Please note this role includes some physical tasks like lifting and pushing carts as part of event setup and logistical responsibilities.

Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000. Additional benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; retirement benefits; student loan repayment assistance; ability to work remotely during non-session days; among other benefits including transit benefits.
