Job Description
In collaboration with the faculty, executive director, and research directors at the UCLA Pritzker Center, the Policy and Community Impact Director will lead efforts to create, manage, and implement important government, policy, and community engagement activities. The position will work closely with the executive director and faculty to promote the UCLA Pritzker Center and enhance its policy-related impact across Los Angeles County and California. The Director will create opportunities to share the UCLA Pritzker Center’s expertise and integrate the work of external experts, philanthropists, and policy leaders on key topics and issues. Additionally, the Director will augment the UCLA Pritzker Center’s current strategic guide to include policy-related efforts and will work to develop opportunities to expand partnerships with philanthropic organizations. The Director will serve as the lead strategist in developing and implementing innovative initiatives that connect philanthropists, educators, policymakers, and researchers toward the common goal of improving the child welfare system and strengthening children and families. This position will also ensure that the School’s research and extensive work in developing innovative practices are actively shared with policy leaders, philanthropists, and relevant community sectors. Furthermore, the Director will oversee all activities related to the UCLA DTLA community effort and will monitor policy developments from the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and California Legislature related to child welfare, working closely with UCLA Government Affairs staff. In addition to policy leadership, the Director will provide financial management support to advance policy and community impact initiatives. This includes analyzing complex budget, funding, and financial data, as well as supporting budget development and administration of funds awarded through policy-related grants. The Director will work in close partnership with the UCLA Pritzker Center Program Coordinator to ensure timely responses to funding inquiries and the effective administration of policy grants. Additionally, the Director will assess short- and long-term resource needs for policy initiatives, recommend reallocations if necessary, and contribute to the development of persuasive proposals to secure additional funding and resources. The successful candidate should be an energetic and proactive professional with experience in community engagement and policymaking for children and families. The candidate should have a background in community outreach and the ability to collaborate with the Executive Director to develop briefings, plan information sessions, and convene policy leaders, community sectors, and philanthropic organizations. Familiarity with the challenges facing the child welfare system, particularly in advancing racial equity and supporting families of color, is essential. Priority will be given to bilingual (Spanish) applicants with demonstrable ties to the community and Los Angeles, given the UCLA Pritzker Center’s frequent engagement with the Spanish-speaking community. Experience in local government, child welfare, and issues across the UCLA Pritzker Center’s portfolio is preferred.
