Job Description

About The Team

DoorDash’s Public Policy and Social Impact Team develops policies and advocates for legislation that supports the health of our business and empowers our community of Dashers, local business partners, and consumers. Through our advocacy on cutting-edge public policy issues and the programs that we develop, we are shaping the future of local economies. This unique team combines policy development, direct engagement with policymakers at all levels of government, advocacy campaigns, research and analysis, and programs to promote equity, safety, and sustainability.

About The Role

DoorDash is looking for an experienced legislative counsel and policy professional with deep expertise in autonomy, robotics, or related fields to join the team’s Policy Development and Research Group, supporting DoorDash Labs. DoorDash Labs is an independent team within DoorDash, which works on autonomous delivery and other emerging technologies. The Legislative Counsel & Policy Advisor will shape the legal and regulatory framework for a new sector of the economy at a pivotal moment. This expansive role goes far beyond legislative analysis. Working with partners on our Labs and Policy teams, you will drive our multi-state legislative and regulatory strategy for Labs products; help develop a best-in-class safety case and broader narrative for technologies we develop; and lead a community engagement strategy to ensure we are good partners to the cities we serve. We expect this role to be hybrid with occasional office visits as needed. West coast candidates will be preferred.

This is a J.D.-required role (please note that while a JD is required, this role is not on the Legal Team).

You’re Excited About This Opportunity Because You Will…

  • Create a strategy for engagement with policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels in the United States and around the world, working closely with global partners on our Policy Team.
  • Conceptualize, draft, and advise on legislative and regulatory proposals covering autonomous delivery and other emerging technologies at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as in international jurisdictions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of new technologies and how they operate in the real-world to ensure we have a best-in-class safety case to share with policymakers and the public.
  • Build a community engagement strategy to ensure that we are good partners to the cities we serve.
  • Engage with academics and think tanks to ensure DoorDash remains at the cutting edge of public policy debates on autonomy and robotics issues.
  • Represent DoorDash in conversations with elected officials and other policymakers.

We’re Excited About You Because…

  • You have a J.D. with a strong academic record and a demonstrated record of success focusing on legislative and regulatory issues — and you have the interest, desire, and experience to lead the development of a comprehensive policy and community strategy.
  • You have 6+ years of experience working on regulation at the intersection of public policy and autonomy, robotics, or related fields.
  • You are a Registered Member of at least one state Bar.
  • You are a self-starter who is intrinsically motivated and confident operating autonomously but also a good teammate.
  • Bonus points for experience in-house at a technology company or in government working on autonomy and robotics
