Job Description
Working under the supervision of the Executive Director and Deputy Director, the Development and Communications Associate will provide key support related to all aspects of fundraising, development, and communications. In particular, responsibilities include the following areas of work:
- Work with the Executive Director and Deputy Director in writing and preparing fundraising proposals, status reports, and other documents required for NYC-EJA's development activities.
- Coordinate fundraising operations, including maintaining a development calendar with timelines, meetings, and other activities, as well as managing prospective foundation outreach and donor acknowledgements.
- Monitor and identify new federal and state funding opportunities that align and support NYC-EJA’s mission and campaign work.
- Design and implement NYC-EJA’s communications strategies and tools, including NYC-EJA’s monthly newsletter, periodic e-blasts, maintaining NYC-EJA's outreach database, drafting position statements, press releases, cataloging media, and managing/coordinating website content.
- Execute social media strategy, including coordinating content for Twitter and Facebook, and publicizing events, reports, news stories, and policy statements supporting NYC-EJA’s campaigns.
- Coordinate the work of NYC-EJA’s Fellowship Program, including recruiting and administrative work with university staff, and coordinating work with NYC-EJA member staff supervising the Fellows.
- Coordinate city and state lobbying submissions on a bi-monthly and annual basis.
- Support other organizational and administrative priorities as may be required.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree + 3 or more years of grant writing experience with a proven record of success; multi-year grants, collaborative or partnership grants and six-figure grants experience preferred.
- Exceptional writer, storyteller, and communicator; ability to see “big picture,” think strategically, and translate strategy into goals and actions.
- Knowledge of environmental justice/climate justice required
- Excellent social media skills preferred
- Experience with traditional media, digital media, web, and other creative content/platforms
- Special event, press conference, rally and public presentation experience a plus
- Graphic design experience is a plus
- Must be a team player, yet able to work independently
- Sense of humor a plus (some days, more than others)
