The Immigration Hub is a national organization dedicated to advancing fair and just immigration policies through strategic leadership, innovative communications strategies, legislative and administrative advocacy, and collaborative partnerships. Emerson Collective incubated the Immigration Hub in 2017 to help combat escalating anti-immigrant sentiment and restrictive immigration policies. The Immigration Hub continues to serve as a national convener, advancing a pro-immigrant Congressional agenda, advocating for humane immigration policies, and fostering collaborative partnerships.
The Hub is comprised of a team of former congressional staff, executive branch officials, and immigration policy advocates with deep roots and experience in advocacy, legislative strategy, and communications.
About the Position
The Immigration Hub seeks a Director of Communications who will report to the Hub’s Chief Political and Communications Officer. The position is responsible for developing and implementing the Hub’s communications strategy and plans to support immigration related federal and political advocacy and strategic partners. The Director of Communications will manage a communications team, including staff and public relations consultants, develop and carry out social and conventional media strategies, and develop messaging tactics for specialized and general audiences, including members of the media, elected officials, state and local voters, and key partners and allies. Additionally, the Director of Communications will assist with communications-related research projects.
Location: Ability to work in Washington D.C. strongly preferred with flexibility for some remote work considered.

What You Will Do:
- Develop and implement communications and rapid response strategies and creative tactics to shape the narrative around immigration and influence key audiences, such as elected officials, journalists, pundits, and other stakeholders;
- Evaluate the effectiveness of communications strategies and tactics, report on progress internally, and quickly refine strategies as necessary;
- Develop a strategic plan to elevate key voices in support of immigration reform and pro-immigrant policies;
- Organize and prepare the organization for earned media including interviews, conversations with reporters and press calls;
- Manage communications staff members and a team of public relations consultants to implement communication tactics, pitch stories, and manage the Hub’s public profile;
- Amplify messages, research and voices, in conjunction with the Chief Political and Communications Officer;
- Work in partnership with Hub teams to synthesize and frame complex policies for the media and other constituencies;
- Draft or review talking points and other messaging guidance for key audiences, including partners, allies, and elected officials;
- Draft or review press releases, media advisories, Op/Eds, background memos and other communications materials;
- Coordinate with partner organizations on rapid response and other communications strategies for federal advocacy campaigns;
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, producers, and editors; and
- Pitch story ideas and creative ways to shape the media narrative on immigration.
About You:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, and at least 8-10 years of professional experience;
- Proven track record and seasoned experience in communications or external relations and managing teams, with background in political work, progressive advocacy or campaigns;
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate to diverse audiences and quickly turn around high quality material;
- Success developing and deploying strategic communications plans;
- Eager to dive into complex policy areas, synthesize information, and turn around a winning and compelling message (immigration experience preferred but not required);
- Experience writing and pitching stories, organizing press events, and working with members of the media;
- Entrepreneurial; strong problem-solver who takes a solution-oriented and creative approach to challenges;
- Skilled in social media;
- Highly organized but flexible, detail-oriented, and able to manage a variety of projects while maintaining focus on high-level organizational goals; and
- Strong interpersonal skills, a team player with a good sense of humor.
