About the Role


SEMA is hiring a proven leader in SEMA’s government relations office to analyze Federal legislation and agency regulations (including those from EPA, NHTSA/DOT, and BLM/DOI, and other agencies) on behalf of its members, assist members with compliance, communicate and update members through written newsletters, seminars, and webinars, and assist the government relations office with advocating for SEMA members’ interests on Capitol Hill and through agency contacts, comments, and rule-making.


Based in Washington DC, you will report to the Sr. Director of Federal Government Affairs and work with the government relations team to advance the interests of the industry. You will work directly with SEMA members, SEMA HQ marketing, membership, and other staff on a wide-range of federal issues and initiatives that include the Government Relations fly-ins, SEMA Show education, and other initiatives to design and execute our government relations strategy. You will build relationships with legislators, regulators and other key stakeholder groups in Washington to advance the industry’s agenda.


Job Responsibilities


·                      Monitor and identify relevant legislative and regulatory proposals at the federal level (using BGOV, the Internet, newspapers, periodicals, mailings, registers and individual contacts).


·                      Provide summaries and detailed analyses of federal legislative and regulatory proposals that will potentially impact member companies.


·                      Develop positions and initiate activities in support of SEMA’s position on federal legislative and regulatory proposals and prepare correspondence, comments and testimony/statements for the records in coordination with Government Affairs staff and General Counsel, and member companies. Contact legislative and regulatory staff as necessary to perform these duties. Provide testimony before legislative and regulatory bodies and work with coalitions and other automotive trade associations.


·                      Prepare and disseminate information to member companies, auto enthusiasts and allied organizations to generate grassroots support regarding federal legislative and regulatory proposals through legislative updates, action alerts, surveys and related materials.


·                      Oversee maintenance of, and regularly update federal materials posted on SEMA websites.


·                      Build relationships with lawmakers and regulators.



·                      Represent SEMA at congressional fundraisers.


·                      Maintain and develop relationships with other industry-aligned organizations and participate in coalition-led legislative efforts.


·                      Assist SEMA member companies that have federal legislative and regulatory questions.


·                      Assist in Congressional relationship building efforts, including organizing and presenting at SEMA’s Washington Fly in, the SEMA Show, and other DC Office-directed events.


·                      When directed by management, perform other assignments and duties as required.


 


Qualifications


1.       4+ years of Capitol Hill Experience, executive branch/federal agency and/or a trade association/corporation


2.       Experience with the legislative and regulatory process.


3.       Superior written and oral communication skills.


4.       Research and analytical skills relevant to government affairs.

Salary Range: This position's estimated annual base salary is $110,000.00 - $130,000.00. Actual base salary will be dependent on individual’s skills, qualifications, and experience. This role is eligible for 401k Savings plan, Healthcare (medical, dental and vision), and other generous rewards.
