About The Role
The Immigration Policy Analyst will contribute to the development and execution of a comprehensive economic and policy research agenda focused on the past, current, and potential future impacts of cross-country immigration on local and global labor markets.
The analyst will utilize our client’s unique data on cross-country job seeker behavior and employer preferences in conjunction with data from national statistics agencies and international non-governmental organizations. This person will help summarize the current regulatory environment, identify emerging trends in international labor migration and analyze the impact of the rules, technologies and economic dynamics shaping labor migration.
Topics of interest include the impact of changes to visa regulations, the professional skills possessed by international migrants and those required by employers, the supply of workers abroad relative to native-born workers in key economic sectors, and more. This role will support an internal and external research and policy strategy, conducting policy-relevant analysis, reviewing existing analyses and applying them to novel uses, and potentially co-authoring research.
The role involves high-level literature review, research and quantitative data analysis on immigration-related policy topics, including its impact on labor market tightness, skills transferability and geopolitical implications. The Research Assistant will collaborate closely with senior researchers in the Lab group and internal stakeholders to analyze the implications of immigration on future labor trends and policy interventions. Additionally, the person in this position will assist in the production of a global report on labor market flows.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature reviews on existing academic, governmental and/or private sector research on the impacts of immigration on international labor markets.
- Summarize existing research and identify key learnings and areas where immigration policy interventions may be beneficial or harmful to local labor markets.
- Analyze labor market trends related to immigration, including skills development and employment practices, using public, proprietary and private-sector data to inform policy recommendations.
- Provide research support to senior staff, focusing on immigration-related macroeconomic and fiscal issues.
- Assist in the production of research materials, including writing reports, policy briefs, and visual presentations of findings.
- Stay informed about legislative and regulatory changes affecting immigration, employment, and workforce policies.
Skills And Capabilities
- Proficiency in collecting and organizing economic and policy data from various sources.
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods. Nice to have: Advance Excel/Google Sheets, knowledge of Tableau/SQL or R for data visualization needs
- Ability to use statistical tools to analyze data and generate insights.
- Understanding and application of key economic principles and frameworks in public policy.
