The Office of Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16) seeks a Staff Assistant/Driver
We are seeking a values-driven, reliable, and thoughtful Staff Assistant/Driver to work out of our Washington, DC office.
The Staff Assistant/Driver will be responsible for greeting office visitors, answering phone calls and logging constituent opinions, fielding constituent requests for general information, managing the office internship program, and processing requests for tours of the U.S. Capitol, White House and other DC based institutions. This individual will also maintain the front office, provide support to the Congressman and Chief of Staff, and oversee the tracking and ordering of office supplies as well as assisting with various other administrative and legislative duties as needed.
This individual is also the primary member of staff responsible for driving the Member to most of his commitments while he is in DC. Candidates for this position must be detail-oriented professionals with strong organization, communication, and judgement. This is an entry level role designed to uplift and grow early career professionals or professionals looking to join Capitol Hill.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Answers and screens telephone calls for the Member and other staff members and takes messages when appropriate
- Compiles and disseminates weekly report detailing office activities for each session and district week.
- Documents constituent opinions on policy issues communicated via telephone, including full name, address, and all relevant information as appropriate, and enters this information into the office call log.
- Greets and screens all office visitors and works closely with the Scheduler to ensure that the Member’s appointments are on time and that the Scheduler is aware of all arrivals.
- Manages office system for fulfilling constituent requests for tours of the U.S. Capitol and the White House. Provides staff-led tours of the U.S. Capitol for constituents and other guests as needed.
- Manages office internship program including initial application reviews and interviews, scheduling intern work hours, and intern onboarding and offboarding.
- Maintains literature regarding the district and House offices for distribution to visitors.
- Tracks office supplies and coordinates required purchases with the Director of Operations.
- Performs special projects assigned by the Congressman or Chief of Staff.
- Manages the physical mail, stationery and inventory for the DC office.
- Serves as primary driver for the Member.
The salary for this position is $60,000. Prior experience with a congressional office is not necessary. Familiarity with the Westchester/Bronx region and/or roots within New York State strongly preferred.
