About the Organization:

Black Girls Do Stem is a new and growing non-profit that seeks to change the face of the STEM

industry. The BGDSTEM program offers middle school-aged black girls hands-on opportunities to

explore stem careers across various industries. Team members share a deeply-held passion for a

new normal when there is an equitable representation of black women across all STEM fields.

BGDSTEM offers the opportunity for team members to lay the foundation for expansion and

growth within the organization as leaders in their functional areas and collaborative stakeholders

in continuous improvement.

About the Position:

The Program Director leads the management of the BGDSTEM program team and is ultimately

responsible for driving inspirational experiences for program participants. The person in the role

will provide program leadership through management of full-time members of the program team

and the delivery of equity-centered professional development to part-time staff. They will create

an environment that motivates team members, volunteers, and program participants to

accomplish the organization’s mission. Successful candidates will bring a deep understanding of

adult learning, expertise in people development, and a track record of supporting the development of organizational culture across various stakeholders. They engage in partnership development and support external development engagements.

Responsibilities

People and Program Leadership:

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of strategic plans grounded in the organizational mission and goals
  • Create and deliver a program model that inspires the retention of Black Girls Do STEM

dozens of volunteers and hundreds participants

  • Manage 2 full-time team members towards organizational outcomes and individual goals

using an equity-driven approach to coaching

  • Ensure a mindset of continuous improvement in organizational culture and the program

model

Organizational Culture and Professional Development:

  • Serve as the organizational DEI and professional development expert
  • Review and update the adult learning and DEI curriculum to align with the organizational

mission and standards

  • Communicate the organization’s mission and equity mindset; support staff and volunteers from onboarding through ongoing professional development
  • Offer group and one-on-one learning opportunities to ensure staff and volunteers can

offer differentiated learning opportunities to participants

Organizational Vision and Growth:

  • Lead evaluation and analysis of program activities
  • Communicate outcomes to a variety of internal and external stakeholders in partnership

with the Executive Director

  • Support development efforts including grant reporting and representing the organization externally as needed
  • Lead a set of relationships with key external partners

Qualifications

  • Strong belief in the mission of BGDS
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field required, advanced degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of combined experience in professional development, instructional

leadership, and DEI

  • Demonstrated success in managing individuals and teams with skill in coaching towards

individual and organizational goals

  • Track record of implementing new programs and building teams to achieve program goals
  • Experience conducting program evaluation and utilizing data for meaningful program

improvement

  • Success in building and managing key external relationships to support organizational

outcomes

Working Conditions

  • Preferred start date January 2025
  • In-person work, including at least two Saturdays a month which are followed by a Monday off; Saturday’s are considered work days although you will not be expected to work every Saturday
  • This role requires 50% local travel in both evenings and weekends
  • Travel to site locations for program delivery
  • Technology to support work including Google Chrome Book, headphones, and internet

services are included as part of the role; a $250 office supply budget annually

  • Gradual-release onboarding period followed but ongoing individual and organization-wide professional development and learning opportunities
  • Weekly check-ins and support from an internal manager and dedicated professional

development time with an external coach

  • Medical insurance is paid by BGD STEM for employee-only, active 30 days after beginning

employment; additional employee-paid supplemental insurance options are also available

  • Paid leave including a 5-day holiday organization-wide, 10 additional federal holidays, and 5 sick days per year available January 1; 5 days of paid vacation leave which accrued across the year.
  • Use of a personal vehicle for work travel and a personal cell phone are required for the role
