ROLE TITLE: Public Partnerships Senior Associate
POSITION REPORTS TO: Bonnie Pham, Managing Director, Strategy & Operations

WHAT YOU’LL DO
We are looking for a Senior Associate to join Teach For America’s Public Partnerships team. In this role, you will work across the team: executing administrative tasks; engaging in research, knowledge management, and data systems; and developing marketing pieces that support our team’s work in Government Affairs, AmeriCorps, and Public Funding (at the local, state, and federal levels). The ideal candidate is passionate about education and eager to build their skills and knowledge in policy, government affairs, and advocacy work. You will support and engage in team-wide initiatives such as overall team strategy and tracking outcomes, knowledge management systems, and supporting team-wide spaces.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
  • Administrative Operations (30%)
    • Manage scheduling needs for the Government Affairs team, including for meetings with members of Congress, their staff and Administration officials.
    • Manage calendar and scheduling needs for SMD, AmeriCorps Partnerships
    • Process the small volume of annual Public Partnerships invoices and liaise with TFA’s finance team on vendor processing needs

  • Marketing Content Support (30%)
    • Draft content and send various internal newsletters, including but not limited to AmeriCorps and State Funding newsletters;
    • Draft content and design factsheets, one-pagers, PowerPoint/Canva slides, and other external-facing documents used by our team

  • Research, Knowledge Management, and Data Support (20%)
    • Update and Maintain data entry records in Salesforce (TFACT) and possible other constituent relationship management software for Public Partnerships team members
    • Research and Update Federal and State Competitive Grant Pipeline
    • Conduct Research on State and District Fiscal Health
    • Maintain team knowledge management systems in SharePoint, Homeroom (TFA’s intranet), and Google Drive

  • Special Projects and Seasonal Tasks (20%)
    • Support Public Funding team on grant applications & submissions (compiling exhibits, letters of support, grant materials)
    • Support Government Affairs Team with seasonal Appropriations work
    • Support Hill Days of TFA executives and Public Partnerships staff
    • Support briefings on Capitol Hill 1-2x a year
    • Attend/support other Public Partnership-related events, including events with TFA alumni working in policy
A WEEK IN THE LIFE
Over the course of any week, the Public Partnerships Senior Associate might spend their time on the following activities:
  • Scheduling key congressional office meetings for TFA executives and staff members
  • Creating and editing Government Affairs factsheets for stakeholder offices
  • Drafting content and sending weekly AmeriCorps blast
  • Meeting with team members and direct manager on progress check-ins and support needs
  • Updating TFA Salesforce (TFACT) with external meetings, alumni experiences for alumni working in policy and government affairs roles, etc.
  • Organizing team files in SharePoint and updating Homeroom (internal management system) with relevant org-wide updates
YOUR EXPERIENCE
You are an innately curious person who loves learning new things. You are flexible, and enjoy working on a variety of projects across any given day. You are highly organized and get energy from building relationships with a wide array of individuals. You are eager to learn new skills and build knowledge in the areas of public funding, government affairs, and public policy.
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
  • Skills:
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills, including copy writing and copy editing
    • Ability to effectively organize, plan and execute projects
    • Ability to operate in a highly professional manner with an emphasis on confidentiality
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Ability to efficiently prioritize planning and deliverables in a changing environment
    • Experience with Technology:
      • Experience using various communication technologies (video, email, web, etc.)
      • Experience with and/or aptitude in marketing design tools (Canva)
      • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and Google Systems (Docs, Drive, Spreadsheets)
    • User-experience mindset and basic ability to adapt messages for various audiences
    • Asset-based, flexible and adaptable in rapidly changing environments
BONUS (preferred qualifications)
  • Prior Experience: 2-3 years of experience
  • Work Demands: Some occasional weekend or evening work hours but very limited.
  • Experience: in education, policy/advocacy work, or marketing preferred

The Public Partnerships team is part of our national Teach for America operations. We drive Teach For America’s work forward in the areas of public policy, AmeriCorps, federal government affairs, and public funding at the local, state, and federal levels. In partnership with over 40 Teach for America regions all over the United States, we work to build relationships and coalitions to advance our child-centered policy agenda and to support the learning and development of our network. As a leader in the education landscape, the Public Partnerships team develops public affairs and equity mindsets, knowledge, and skills within the Teach For America community.
YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected salary ranges for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Tier A: $22.93-$29.57
Tier B: $25.00-$32.21
Tier C: $27.02-$34.86
