Communications Specialist, Public Affairs

Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist supports the smooth execution of a communications strategy that promotes metro Atlanta, helping to position it as a top-tier global region, and tactically shares the work of the Metro Atlanta Chamber, focusing on economy, talent, and community. A successful candidate for this junior-level role will work alongside the Public Affairs team to execute strategic communications efforts on behalf of the Metro Atlanta Chamber (MAC).

This role requires an energetic, collaborative, and team-oriented self-starter who has 2-5 years of experience in a writing-intensive field and who has a passion for written communication. It will primarily support MAC’s internal communications initiatives, including planning support as well as execution. The Communications Specialist will also work closely with the Marketing team to draft social media messages based on MAC’s brand strategy. This team member will collaborate with designated MAC staff and employ a customer service-oriented approach to help the organization achieve its communications goals.

The ideal candidate understands and appreciates the role the Metro Atlanta Chamber plays in driving our region forward through the lenses of economy, talent, and community whether that’s through economic development, public policy work, talent attraction, or major sporting events.

Duties:

  • Supports communications at the direction of the VP, Strategic Communications,

  • Supports the Senior Director for Strategic Communications on internal communications, including but not limited to:

  • Daily news summaries

  • Regular staff newsletters and messages

  • Executive remarks and talking points for internal audiences, including the Board of Directors and Executive Committee

  • Works closely with the Marketing and Public Affairs teams to update and curate the MAC website and ensure that social channel messaging is timely and relevant

  • Develops content as directed, including ongoing projects like:

  • Social media messaging and copy across all platforms

  • Content editing and project management for Economic Development newsletters

  • MAC website newsroom articles

  • Internal staff communications

  • Researches media coverage and industry trends

  • Other duties as assigned

Public Affairs Departmental Mission:

It plays a catalytic role in fulfilling the purpose of the Metro Atlanta Chamber to unleash Atlanta’s ambition by focusing on three strategic imperatives: economy, talent, and community.

Our team leads external, internal, and executive communications by planning and producing, writing and editing, engaging with media, and crafting messaging for high-visibility projects that align with MAC priorities and promote the metro Atlanta region.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, PR, communications, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of experience working in PR, communications, marketing, or a related field

  • Excellent communicator with strong writing skills and meticulous attention to detail

  • Strong understanding of and ability to execute public relations concepts and tactics

  • Knowledge of social media and web best practices

  • Proven ability to shift writing between a variety of voices, tones, and styles

  • Experience with PR/media relations tools such as Muck Rack

  • Project management experience

  • Experience driving collaboration within teams works independently, but embodies a collaborative approach
