Job Description
The Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for supporting the Manager of Public Affairs’ efforts to develop communications material for internal and external audiences that are designed to increase visibility and enhance awareness of the RTAA. As part of our award-winning Marketing and Public Affairs team, the Public Affairs Specialist who is hired into this position will have broad responsibilities when it comes to providing high quality, timely, and relevant information to internal and external stakeholders of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.
Whether you’re providing information, education, or inspiration, your voice will have a far-reaching impact for the organization as well as the Reno-Tahoe region. From internal, intranet-based articles, to employee emails, press releases, website content, social soundbites and newsletters, you will have the opportunity to provide communication in different formats and across many different platforms.
Plus, it’s just really FUN. There’s always something new and exciting happening at the RTAA, especially in the midst of MoreRNO, the largest infrastructure program in our airport’s history. After you put that long-form website article to bed, you roll up your sleeves and plan a press conference, or update The Hub (our intranet) with photos from our last Town Hall meeting, or create a PowerPoint presentation for one of our Chiefs who is headed to an important conference, or find yourself on the news as the backup Public Information Officer. In short, it’s busy, it’s important, and it makes a difference to people in many different ways.
Responsibilities of This Position Include:
Support internal communications, including researching, writing, creating and distributing material such as emails, flyers, intranet and digital screen content.
Support external communications, including helping research and write news releases and media pitches, website content, PowerPoint presentations, social media posts, and newsletter creation.
Support the RTAA’s Public Information Officer (PIO) and occasionally serve as back-up PIO during which times the Public Affairs Specialist would be on call during non-working hours and serve as the airport spokesperson.
Support crisis communications planning by updating internal and external facing templates and procedure documentation.
Planning and executing special events such as press conferences, groundbreakings, community and employee events.
Support and coordinate onsite filming activities.
News monitoring and reporting, including proactively monitoring industry news to stay current on issues and anticipate potential impacts on the RTAA.
Research and respond to “Ask the Airport” emails.
Support in-house marketing and advertising campaigns, as needed.
Occasional, light administrative support.
Entry Salary: $61,887 - $77,978 per year, with opportunity for additional merit-based increases to a range maximum of $94,068. Initial salary placement will be based upon experience and qualifications. This position is salaried and exempt from overtime.
Benefits: The RTAA offers a competitive wage and benefit package and provides a high-quality work-life balance. Employee benefits include 100% employer paid contributions to the Nevada PERS retirement program; 100% employer-paid health insurance for the employee; paid vacation and sick leave; and 14 paid holidays per year - just to name a few.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, English, or a closely related field, or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Three years of integrated communications experience. Aviation experience and professional and relevant accreditation(s) preferred, but not required.
A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application.
