In every aspect of our work, GIFCT aims to be transparent, inclusive, and respectful of the fundamental and universal human rights that terrorists and violent extremists seek to undermine.

Position Summary

The Communications and Public Affairs Lead is an integral member of the Executive Director’s office, providing strategic support across the organization to shape external engagement and discourse, public-facing documents and materials, and support leadership’s strategic communications. They will support the Executive Director and the organization in shaping the public discourse about GIFCT by creating impactful campaigns promoting GIFCT's mission, values, and activities, and work with GIFCT teams and member companies, as relevant, to create communication materials, manage the organization’s social media presence, and support communications relating to GIFCT events, activities, and outputs. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Executive Director’s Office to foster a consistent approach to communications and materials across the organization, which can include drafting and preparing communications materials and templates, coordinating with GIFCT team members and (current and incoming) member companies, as needed, regarding key communications materials and events.

Key Responsibilities

Communications

  • Develop and deliver communications materials and plans in consultation with the Executive Director’s Office (EDO) to promote GIFCT’s mission, members and activities to key stakeholders and the wider public.
  • Respond to media inquiries and liaise with journalists and stakeholders, as needed, to communicate GIFCT’s mission and activities, and support expert team members in sharing substantive expertise and insights through the media, liaising with external consultants where needed
  • Manage the organization’s communications channels and digital platforms, including website(s)and social media accounts and identify gaps and opportunities to enhance communications impact on them, including through the production of content
  • Develop communication campaigns in consultation with EDO that highlight GIFCT partnerships and activities around the world, including GNET
  • Manage the drafting and development of the Annual & Transparency Report, drawing on inputs from across the team
  • Provide editorial support and inputs for internal publications and communications materials, in coordination with the Executive Director’s Office, including drafting briefing documents
  • Liaise with designers, copy-editors, and other communications consultants as needed.
  • Join the leadership team in internal and external meetings, as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MA or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years experience in a communications role and experience working with non-profit organizations, media, international organizations, or other public affairs roles
  • Proficient in Google Suite apps, Microsoft Office, MailChimp, social media platforms; experience with website development desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Familiarity with tech, counterterrorism and countering violent extremism issues, and international affairs, is desirable.
  • Resourcefulness and ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-functional team, prioritize but also remain flexible, and have the ability to meet deadlines and take ownership of a wide range of responsibilities.
  • Availability to occasionally travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Candidate must have fluency in English; additional proficiency in one of the UN working languages (French, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Spanish) is desirable.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to align primarily with US East Coast business hours and attend meetings as needed.
