Job Title: Lead Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy

About the Job
We are seeking a visionary and dynamic leader to join the US Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy General Medicines team to mobilize the advocacy community at the local and state level. This role will play a crucial part in developing strategy, driving engagement efforts, fostering collaboration both internally and externally, leading to increased early detection of T1D and better care. Execution excellence, proven results in project management, budling trusted relationships, and effective communication is a must. This role will focus on developing strategy and execution plans, supporting local coalitions of PAGs, community, population health, and public health leaders. The ideal candidate will be an agile leader and project manager, adept at strategy setting and execution, coaching and empowering teams, and passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals affected by Type 1 Diabetes. Ideally, this candidate has existing connections in the advocacy/ public health community and experience working with local non-profit organizations.

Main Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning, Execution, and Collaboration:
Lead the development of a comprehensive strategic plan for T1D community advocate activation for priority areas, in collaboration with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Identify key advocacy stakeholders, which could include: patients, caregivers, healthcare providers, advocacy groups, social organizations, policymakers, and public health for engagement and collaboration based on mutual goals.
Support the team in planning and executing impactful in-state activities and initiatives aimed at raising awareness, driving advocacy efforts, and improving access to resources and support for individuals living with T1D.
Coordinate and execute engagement plans and pull through of local and state policies for T1D screening and education.
Team Leadership and Management:
Identify ways of working, socialize the goals and ambitions of the project plan and maintain constant lines of open communication with business stakeholders.
Provide leadership, direction, create and support to a team tasked with executing T1D community activation target communities/cities/states.
Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that values innovation, creativity, and continuous learning.
Educate and coach team on advocacy ways of working, including best practices for stakeholder engagement, patient-centered approaches, and effective communication strategies.
Work with Head of US Gen Meds PA&PA on opportunities to apply local learnings to national as well as potential engagement across all therapeutic areas (ex. GVHD, transplant)
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Establish and track key performance metrics and indicators to measure the success and impact to improve T1D early detection, screening efforts, and public health outcomes.
Analyze data and feedback to identify areas for improvement and optimization and develop strategies to enhance program effectiveness.
Prepare regular progress reports and presentations for key stakeholders, including the Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy Head, Corporate Affairs, and cross-functional team, to provide updates on program performance and milestones.
Internal Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate closely with the Public Affairs & Patient Advocacy Head and other cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and initiatives.
Act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, facilitating communication, sharing insights, and addressing any challenges or barriers to success.
About You
Qualifications:
Proven leadership experience overseeing teams and managing complex projects or initiatives, preferably in the healthcare, advocacy, or nonprofit sector.
Skill in handling complex operations, proven project management skills, connecting and building trusted relationships on teams.
Strong understanding of the advocacy landscape, patient engagement principles, and healthcare policy. In-state engagement experience a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and build consensus.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute innovative solutions to address community needs and drive positive change.
Open-minded, visionary, and willing to experiment with new approaches and ideas to achieve program objectives.
Minimum of 7 years' experience in Pharma industry. Experience in Corporate Affairs or Public Affairs and familiarity with patient advocacy’s core principles and ways of working a plus.
BS/BA required.
