Bat Conservation International (BCI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to ending bat extinctions worldwide, seeks an Engagement Coordinator to join BCI’s Network and Partnership Team. BCI is a distributed organization with staff across the United States and this position can work from anywhere within the United States, with a willingness to travel occasionally to collaborate with team members.
The Coordinator will join a dynamic organization and a highly progressive team, reporting to the Director of Network and Partnerships. The Coordinator must be highly collaborative and enjoy working within a mission- and results-driven environment where they will contribute to positive ecological and social change. This position is ideal for anyone interested in working at the intersection of people and conservation, community science programs, and delivering nature experiences to a diverse audience.
Position Description:
The Coordinator will provide partner and administrative support to our existing public engagement strategies, reach new audiences, expand our supporter base, and cultivate partnerships through public participation in bat conservation activities and virtual engagement. Examples of current public engagement strategies include delivering nature walks to find bats, gardening with plants that attract insects that bats eat, and piloting citizen science bat acoustic surveys.
Most notably, this person in this role will: Support BCI’s delivery of existing strategies to engage public participation in bat conservation activities, including communicating with our bat ambassadors volunteer network, facilitating training opportunities for bat walks, collaborating with partners to expand bat garden implementation, and supporting the development of additional backyard bat survey pilot projects.
- Disseminate knowledge about bat conservation to appropriate audiences and stakeholders.
- Execute administrative tasks related to the existing strategies including, but not limited to answering questions, emailing volunteers, updating databases, coordinating with other staff, etc.
- Deliver presentations related to these programs and bats in general.
- Promote BCI’s mission and opportunities for public engagement.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Experience
- Ability and interest in communicating with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
- Ability to execute plans and workflows and support collaborative projects.
- Experience or interest and willingness to learn about bats, bat ecology, bat habitats, and other components of BCI’s work necessary to support public participation strategies that benefit bats, people, and the environment.
- Experience and passion for engaging with different communities and committees to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive conservation community.
- Proven success with managing multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and accurately with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize under the pressure of deadlines.
- Ability to manage projects, including coordinating with other staff and external partners.
- Ability to communicate with the public and promote BCI’s mission and programs to various audiences.
- Demonstrated experience in community engagement, grassroots training, or volunteer management.
- Enjoys team dynamics and demonstrates a participatory work style and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire partners and the public toward our mission.
Preferred Knowledge/Experience
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities is a plus.
- Verbal and presentation proficiency.
- Experience communicating in Spanish is a plus.
