ABOUT LATINOJUSTICE PRLDEF

Founded in 1972 as the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund, LatinoJustice PRLDEF (LJP) has been a leading civil rights and social justice organization for five decades. LJP’s core issue areas include voting rights and redistricting, economic justice, immigrant rights, criminal legal system (policing and prison) reform, racial justice, leadership development, and issues related to Puerto Rico. LJP uses impact litigation, advocacy, and community education and engagement, among other strategies, to protect and advance the rights of Latinx and other communities of color. LJP has offices in New York City, Orlando, FL, and Austin, TX.

Working under the supervision of the Director of institutional Giving, the Manager of Institutional Giving is a full-time employee responsible for managing the institutional giving strategy which includes the grant proposal process. Key activities include researching institutional funding prospects, drafting proposals and reports, and managing the grants calendar. Other development duties may be assigned as needed. The Manager of Institutional Giving reports to the Director of Institutional Giving and is a member of the development staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Manager of Institutional Giving will:

  • Work with the Director and other LJP staffers to cultivate new institutional funding prospects and steward existing institutional donors.
  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, corporate and government sources owning the final outcome.
  • Develop an understanding of institutional history and programs as well as organizational history with institutional funders.
  • Perform prospect research and provide evaluations of possible funders to the Director of institutional Giving and appropriate program staff.
  • Inform and implement strategies to align with funder priorities.
  • Draft and edit proposals and secure appropriate reviews, in a timely manner, prior to submission as needed.
  • Populate, maintain and share the grants calendar and all follow-up tasks required to meet deadlines.
  • Have primary responsibility to enter grant, reporting and funder data into the LJP development database and to pull and provide reports related to institutional funding.
  • Maintain up-to-date files of customary attachments for grant proposals such as audited statements and relevant media publications.
  • Inform appropriate staff when grants are secured and ensure compliance with all reporting that may be required by institutional donors.
  • Manage the New York Statewide Financial System for grant application and reporting.
  • Takes ownership of projects assigned to them and assertively follows through, seeking guidance, assistance and feedback as needed from the Director and other project collaborators.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Detail-oriented, organized self-starter, able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communicator, who is comfortable engaging with peers and funders both in person and via digital and other communication channels.
  • Ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Familiarity with research techniques and knowledge of fundraising information sources for prospect research including Foundation Center online.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Proficient in DonorPerfect or similar CRM.
  • Able to work successfully in a small team environment.
  • Strong organizational ability to multi-task and effectively manage time
  • Takes initiative, as appropriate, communicating effectively and working well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to protect sensitive information by maintaining the highest level of discretion and confidentiality

Please note: LJP staff works in hybrid model with 60% flexible remote work.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a Union position and salary is determined by a Collective Bargaining Agreement. The salary range for this position is based on years of experience, starting at $88,545 for five (5) years of experience.
