Job Description
The Office of a New York State Assemblymember is searching for a social media expert. As the Media Coordinator you will write and distribute weekly press releases for the local and state-wide newspapers about the activities and legislation sponsored by the office. This will include creating a district-wide bi-weekly email newsletter that highlights the work done by the Assemblymember. In addition, you will be directly responsible for maintaining, monitoring, posting and creating posts for the pages of the Assemblymember on social media. Other constituent-based work shall be required and attendance at civic meetings will be expected.
Job Description:
Communication and Press:
· Write weekly press releases (between 1-2 a week) about the recent events the Assemblymember is attending or sponsoring. This could also include updates on major legislative accomplishments.
· Maintain a press list of City and State journalists
· Send the press releases on time and monitor/respond to any follow-ups
· Draft, edit and send a bi-weekly email newsletter that highlights events the Assemblymember attended or sponsored throughout the past 2 weeks.
· Overseeing Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.
· Create posts around the activities, or upcoming events, of the Office of the Assemblymember
o Post shall include but not be limited to: photos with a caption of events, flyers for upcoming events, retweets about statistics,
· Manage, develop and oversee social media strategy and content
· Maintain and update website as needed
Additional Duties:
- Resolving and managing constituent issues, and responding to casework correspondence
- Interacting with government agencies, organizations, members of the community
- Entering constituent requests into a database
- Attending evening community-based and civic meetings
Experience
- 3 years’ experience in communications or a similar role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High school graduation, minimal
- Knowledge of best practices for social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
- Organized and able to multitask
- Available to work evenings and weekends on occasion
- Proficiency in Photoshop, Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe, Word Doc, Excel

Pay: $40,522.98 - $50,000.00 per year
