Job Description
Ranking Member Martin Heinrich (D-NM) seeks a Deputy Communications Director to join the Democratic staff of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee. The Deputy Communications Director will serve as a spokesperson and help guide the day-to-day activities of the communications team. The position is central to integrating creative, powerful storytelling into communications strategies. Key duties include planning, implementing, and evaluating media, communications, and public relations plans; staffing the Ranking Member for press engagements and events; writing media advisories, press releases, statements, talking points memos, public statements, and other written communication; contributing to compelling content produced for a variety of platforms, including social media, to communicate the Ranking Member’s priorities and encourage engagement with target audiences; actively pitching stories to reporters and fielding incoming media inquiries in a timely manner and in collaboration with staff.
The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic team player with leadership skills and creative drive and overall exceptional writer and communicator. This is not an entry level position; four to six years of applicable work experience including management and mentorship experience, particularly on the hill, are strongly preferred. On the record experience required.
