Job Description
Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer
Location: 151 Lawrence Street, Brooklyn, NY (hybrid work schedule)
Hours: Full time - 35 hours per week
Salary: $80,000 - $85,000
The Deputy Director of Communications will lead the Advancement department's strategic external and internal communications efforts.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to refine the organization’s key messages and messaging for programs. Oversee the development and drafting of communications for internal and external audiences that reflect BCS's mission, vision, and voice. This includes social media, blogs, website, newsletters, fundraising and special events, external campaigns, and fundraising initiatives.
- Manage and oversee content creation, including the editorial calendar for social media, newsletters, and external communications. Work with the Advancement team to ensure that corporate partners, donors, volunteers, and community partners are recognized and engaged as necessary.
- Track KPIs across social media and digital communications to inform strategies and decision-making.
- Work with the Development team to create content and communications for fundraising and donor-centered campaigns, including Giving Tuesday and the End of the Year Giving Campaign.
- Work with the Development team to create content and communications for corporate and community engagement campaigns, including the Annual Toy Drive and Spring into Action.
- Work with the Brand and Marketing team to create Brand and Communications templates for
- Program Departments and conduct program staff training.
- Support HR with Internal Communications Manager for recruitment and staffing initiatives, all-staff emails, and staff-wide campaigns.
- Support Advancement events through email marketing and managing video communications.
- Work with the Advancement team to create copy and content for external marketing materials.
- Work with the CAO and Advancement team to update copy on the BCS website
- Manage Internal Communications Manager and Communications Associate, creating goals and measures for success, conducting evaluations, and managing professional development
- Participate in and support Advancement activities as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience using Adobe Creative Suite or Canva is preferred.
Experience using Emma or another Email Service Provider is preferred
2 - 4 years of communications experience in the nonprofit sector
Expert written and verbal communication skills, including storytelling and the ability to present to diverse audiences
Proven mastery of writing for various platforms, print and online
Excellent attention to detail
Strong project management skills
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve
Demonstrated understanding of data metrics and how to generate, read, and use data reports to inform strategies and decision-making
Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
Experience with website CMS is preferred, especially WordPress
