The Bend the Arc family of organizations consists of Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, our 501(c)(4) organizing and advocacy arm; Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC, the first and only Jewish PAC to advocate exclusively for progressive policies in the U.S.; and Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice, our 501(c)(3) education and leadership arm. We are proud to be a Union shop and to be working with the Non-profit Employees Union (NPEU) toward finalizing a Collective Bargaining Agreement and achieving our goals.


Headquartered in New York City, we have remote staff nationwide with clusters in Los Angeles and Washington DC, along with a network of staffed chapters, volunteer-led local groups, and affiliates organizing across the country.

Staff are held accountable to a set of competencies that are regularly assessed through our evaluation process. This work takes place in regular all-staff meetings, trainings, an annual staff retreat, team meetings, and in ad-hoc and standing cross-team committees.


About the Position: 


The Development Coordinator is an integral member of the Development team, which raises approximately $4MM per year in support of Bend the Arc’s work. In addition to this role, the Development team currently consists of a Director of Development, an Associate Director of Institutional Giving, a Senior Development Officer, and an Individual Giving Manager. Together, the team stewards individual and major donors and institutional funders across the country. 


The Development Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are in department operations and systems management, with the topline priorities of ensuring smooth workflow of significant Development team projects, maintaining the integrity of department data and processes, and ensuring that donors are promptly recognized and responded to. 


The Development Coordinator also supports events and special projects of the Development department as well as the PAC. This role holds an important piece of donor relationships, often in the vein of gift processing or event coordination, requiring attention to detail and a high level of donor support. Additionally, this position requires coordination and work with colleagues across all Bend the Arc departments, making relationship building a key to success in this role. 



Key Responsibilities:


Database and Systems Management

  • Maintain Raiser’s Edge database and perform clean-up and other projects to increase data integrity;
  • Reconcile Raiser’s Edge and NationBuilder donor information (using Omatic, an integration interface);
  • Provide training and technical assistance to the Development team, PAC, and staff solicitors in the use of Raiser’s Edge;
  • Produce reports, donor lists, and dashboards to assist the Development team in effectively stewarding donor relationships and tracking their progress against fundraising goals;
  • Regularly audit and review available software solutions for department needs; make recommendations to Director about potential improvements;
  • In collaboration with the Director of Development and team, create and maintain operating business rules for the entry and analysis of Raiser’s Edge data;
  • Maintain Development Department files.


Gift, Data, and Donor Communications Processing

  • Process and track all gifts and contributions to all entities (501c3; 501c4; PAC), including checks, credit cards, and stocks;
  • Prepare acknowledgement letters, honor/memoriam letters, and pledge letters; 
  • Maintain donor and gift records using the Raiser’s Edge database; run weekly gift reports and other reports as requested; track ongoing donor correspondence; track incoming and outstanding pledges;
  • Work with outside consultants on weekly, monthly, and quarterly projects;
  • Liaise with PAC compliance firm to disburse funds to endorsed candidates;
  • Run monthly fundraising reports for the Board Finance Committee;
  • Reconcile received revenue with the Finance Department on a monthly basis;


Administrative Support

  • Prepare and update donor packets to support fundraising efforts; 
  • Provide administrative and logistical support in the planning and implementation of PAC and donor events, phone calls, parlor meetings, and conferences, which may occasionally (5-6 times per year) require working evening or weekend hours. 
  • Serve as first point of contact for mid-level and major donors; respond to internal and external calls, mail, and email;
  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Development Department and PAC, and perform other administrative duties as needed;
  • Support the communications team and the Individual Giving Manager with digital fundraising efforts and direct mail projects;
  • Assist the CEO when the Executive Assistant is out/needs additional support.


Required Skills and Qualifications 


Position Specific:

  • Demonstrated experience and facility with fundraising database software is preferred, with prior Raiser’s Edge experience a strong plus
  • Highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Comfortable with data entry; self-motivated and able to complete high-volume, detailed tasks (particularly in remote environment)
  • Ability to manage sometimes fast-paced environments (particularly around peak months)
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with remote supervision and colleagues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and exercise discretion 
  • Ability to communicate organizational mission, values, and current work clearly and effectively with donors both in writing and in interpersonal communication
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google platforms (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Hangouts, etc.), as well as comfort learning new technology and systems
  • Experience with databases and other software such as Raiser’s Edge, NationBuilder, and Slack is preferred, not required.

Compensation, Benefits, and Work Schedule 

This is a full-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice's newly formed collective bargaining unit. The work schedule will include some evenings and weekends when needed. The annual salary range is $65,000-70,000 commensurate with experience. Statistics show that women and candidates from marginalized identities do not typically advocate for themselves, so to maintain equity, Bend the Arc has moved away from the culture of negotiation. When we make an offer, we offer the highest salary within the salary range that we assess matches the individual’s qualifications and fit for the role. Our employees are offered a comprehensive benefits package:

Must be able to operate a computer, video platforms, and other office machinery throughout working hours. Must occasionally travel by air and ground transportation and move about to attend conferences, events, and an annual staff retreat in accordance with organizational guidelines on travel due to COVID. Hiring Process & New Hire Orientation

Bend the Arc’s hiring process has been designed to bring in a diverse applicant pool, ensure equity, mitigate bias, and provide applicants with transparency and clear expectations. The interview process involves a phone screen (audio call), one or two group interviews (video call), sometimes an exercise, and then a final interview (video call). We strive to keep the interview process between 10-12 weeks long.


Due to the number of applications we typically receive, we sincerely regret that we cannot respond to all applicants. Candidates who have completed a phone screen will receive a weekly update on their application and overall hiring timeframe. Candidates who complete an assignment and last round of interviews (“final candidates”) will receive an honorarium of $150 upon completion of the process. Final candidates may be asked to disclose any outside employment, self-employment, and other outside positions and activities (i.e. Board seats, positions in a foundation, etc.).


Once hired, new employees will partake in a comprehensive onboarding process, receiving the necessary training and resources to carry out their responsibilities as well as refine and develop their skills and meet clearly laid-out expectations. 


The first three (3) months of employment are considered a New Employee Orientation (NEO) period. During this time, employees will be provided clear work expectations, feedback, and mechanisms for support including, but not limited to, coaching or training. Employees must also be provided with racial equity training relevant to Bend the Arc’s work and mission. During the NEO, employees will have check-ins with their supervisors and receive feedback on their performance and acclimation to the role. At the end of the NEO, the supervisor, along with HR, will determine if the NEO can conclude or should be extended.
