J.A. Green & Company, a leading defense lobbying firm located steps from Capitol Hill and named a Top-Performing Firm by Bloomberg Government, The Hill, and the National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics, seeks a full-time Vice President of Government Affairs. Our clients range from major defense contractors to innovative small businesses in the defense industrial base.

The Vice President of Government Affairs will be a key player on a team of government relations professionals. The Vice President will be responsible for analyzing and advocating for specific legislation and regulations. They will be responsible for executing strategies to achieve specific client priorities as well as assisting in the development and review of those strategies and priorities. They will also be responsible for forging and maintaining relationships with members of Congress and staff along with selected executive branch officials.

The ideal candidate is capable of independently analyzing ideal pathways to achieve strategic wins and functioning with varying levels of oversight from a suite of different clients. Government relations or Capitol Hill experience is required for this position.

Duties 

  • Identify and track legislation and regulations that impact client priorities.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans to meet client goals.
  • Manage day-to-day interactions with clients.
  • Compose, edit, and transmit advocacy documents such as issue summaries, white papers, op-eds, and policy alerts.
  • Schedule and attend meetings and communication opportunities with Congress and selected agency officials.
  • Independently foster business development opportunities to support firm growth.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or B.A. required; advanced degree preferred (J.D. or Masters in related field).
  • 7 years of relevant experience; experience as a Military Legislative Assistant or Professional Staff Member on Capitol Hill preferred.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical thinker, and self-starter.

Ability to recommend meetings and communication opportunities with Congress and selected agency officials.

  • Advanced writing experience is required.
  • Excellent communicator with stellar verbal skills who can advocate on behalf of clients and influence elected officials.
  • Possess an understanding of the Defense authorization and appropriations process.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The annual salary range for this position is $125,000 - $275,000, commensurate with experience
