Job Description
The Programs Specialist provides support to National PTA’s Programs & Strategic Initiatives team. The team designs and implements engaging, educational, and fun programs and opportunities motivating and positively affecting students and their families.
The Specialist works collaboratively with staff, corporate sponsors, and volunteer leaders to implement programming that engages students and families. The Specialist assists with building partnerships and developing program materials that support the implementation of National PTA programs across a diverse range of communities, schools, and families. They will also support the creation, project management, project evaluation and dissemination of resources and training for parents, caregivers, PTA leaders, and other stakeholders.
This is a two-year grant funded position, with the strong possibility of renewal.
Salary: $58,500 per year, with consideration for additional experience and skills.
About this Job:
Project Coordination
- Manage the development of, coordinate and implement program-specific materials, tools and resources
- Provide regular communication, training and support to program participants
- Provide high quality and efficient customer service to PTA leaders
- Serve as subject matter expert of select programs and program processes
- Coordinate surveys and data in support of program assessment and evaluation efforts
- Develop, implement and document program processes and enhancements based on feedback, evaluation and program design
Communications
- Support and track the development and implementation of PTA program communications plans, web content, and other outreach materials that support National PTA’s programs
- Support PTA’s storytelling efforts: coordinate, collect and track surveys, regular report and program success data, photos and stories in support of program promotion
- Provide general program support including meeting management, collection and posting of materials, processing of payments and running the good standing process with state PTAs
- Work within and across departments to provide program information and utilize existing channels to disseminate communication to parents, caregivers, PTA leaders and other stakeholders
- Other duties as assigned
Administration
- Ensure timely responses to public, partner and member inquiries
- Provide general program support including meeting management, collection and posting of materials, processing of payments and running the good standing process with state PTAs

The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong written and verbal skills; including drafting and editing written materials
- Strong technology skills, including Microsoft Office and Zoom as well as familiarity with cloud-based data management/storage systems/software, communications platforms (e.g. Sitefinity and Loom), and survey instruments (e.g. SurveyMonkey)
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, including strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
- Exceptional administrative and project coordination skills
- Strong phone presence and excellent follow through
- Highly organized, flexible, and strong customer-service orientation
- Ability to work independently and also be an enthusiastic team player
- Ability to effectively prioritize projects and tasks to meet deadlines
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience
- 1-3 years of professional experience, with at least one year of solid project coordination experience preferably with an education, non-profit, or association organization
- At least 1 year of experience providing excellent customer service
- Experience training adult learners is highly desirable
- Experience writing and creating communications for internal and external audiences
- Experience with community outreach and volunteer engagement with a wide variety of audiences
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a professional office environment in Alexandria, VA, currently on a hybrid schedule in-office 2 days per week with core office hours.
- Position may be required to work some evenings and weekends to provide technical assistance and for special programs and/or events.
- This is a largely sedentary role. Routine activities and special events may require the ability to lift files, packages and related materials weighing up to 20 lbs and to bend or stand as necessary.
