Chief Executive Officer – Arlington Free Clinic

Arlington Free Clinic (AFC) is a community-based, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization committed to advancing health equity by providing free and comprehensive, whole-person healthcare to their neighbors in Arlington County, Virginia, who would otherwise lack access. With a rich history spanning over three decades, AFC continues to represent a beacon of hope and healing for the Arlington community. 

The new AFC CEO will possess in-depth knowledge of and empathy for the needs of AFC’s target population. They must have a genuine commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes. The CEO will uphold the clinic’s core values, principles, and mission, ensuring that healthcare accessibility remains at the forefront. The Board and staff will look to the CEO’s forward-thinking mindset, strategic thinking, and financial acumen as they navigate the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare and strive to make a meaningful impact on the Arlington community. The CEO will strategically oversee the organization, ensuring it has the necessary infrastructure, systems, and resources to achieve health equity for the Arlington community.

AFC seeks a candidate who embodies the following attributes, both professionally and personally: 

Innovative and forward-thinking. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to shape and execute the vision of AFC and oversee the development and implementation of strategic, operational, financial, and budgetary plans, aligning resources effectively with goals and priorities.  

Inspiring, Empathetic, and Effective. The CEO will oversee and provide inspirational leadership and guidance to 45 full/part-time staff, including seven direct reports, and be responsible for building an effective leadership team. AFC’s new leader will champion a healthy organizational culture and guide social justice within the clinic through exemplary leadership, motivation, and modeling of desired behavior. 

Dynamic, Mission-driven, and Relationship-builder. The CEO will play a pivotal role in advancing AFC’s mission and goals through proactive relationship-building and engagement with the broader AFC community.  

Working closely with the development and communications staff, the CEO will provide strategic guidance and direction for all fundraising and development initiatives, including cultivating relationships with donors, supporters, and stakeholders, strategically positioning the clinic with potential business partners and funders, and overseeing efforts to secure major donations.
